u could put neem oil on the ferns or try hanging a beetle trap somewhere in the yard, you can order them online.

Milky spore works really well for me but it takes a few growing seasons. I am now mostly rid of the Japanese beetles but dealing with aphids now. Its never ending.

I’ve used the traps, which are effective, but I feel that they end up attracting even more beetles. I usually just murder them by hand now by tipping them with a gloved hand into a jar filled with water and a dash of soap. (I wear gloves because they’re always on my roses.) I do this once or twice a day.
