I have one small strip of grass that is dying. The grass around it is flourishing and I’ve ensured that this area is getting plenty of water. Maybe I just need to reseed in early fall? Located in eastern Oregon. Any ideas/advice greatly appreciated!

It’s your path to the bbq?
You walk on it. The secret to a great lawn is to never actually use it.

there is a comedically large rock under there
The grass is getting trampled and compacted every time you walk to the grill and back.
You’re going to need a walking path with some pavers buried low so you can still easily mow over them. Either that or move your grill.
How could I not see something so obviously in front of my face!? I don’t actually use that BBQ very often, but the kids like that path too. Time to see if they’ll let me return the kids for a full refund.
Everyone saying it’s because you walk on it but I am not sure that’s the reason.
It could be grubs—dig like circle out like 6” deep (just put it back and water it and it will grow back together no problem). If there’s a bunch of grubs, it’s grubs.
It could be a reflection, or a strip that lines up with the sun during the day while the rest is blocked.
Or it could be lack of nutrients.
If it’s grubs; put down grubex or nematodes or whatever you want.
And regardless, I would put down compost along that entire strip, fertilize with a natural fertilizer (we have something called rich lawn in Colorado that is just chicken poop), rake it in, and water it.
Come on don’t make me be the one to say it…

Dog urination area?
Oh wow
That little Mower needs a v8 swap
Could be grubs.
Remove foot traffic or install pavers.
Soil is compacted
Packed dirt,
It’s a desire path.
Here’s an interesting note about how they can be used in a practical sense.

Even if you aerate and overseed you’re still faced with the same issue down the road. Pavers, walkway or a path less traveled ~~~
not enough broom?
(new here, am I doing this right?)
Traffic? Put some cones up, and quit playing monster jam in the grass.
Looks like a footpath.
I had a similar issue with the route I use to get to my mower and tools- went the cheap/lazy way and just threw out some cheap Home Depot pavers. Did well for about a year, now they’ve sunken in and I need to dig it up and do a proper path.
Does that section have a gas line running underground? I had a similar issue and turned out to be a slow gas leak. Dig out a chunk of it, if the dirt has patches of white then it’s probably a gas leak.
Bad cultivar get a sod cutter and out in some astroturf. End of… holds out coin jar.
Im struggling with this grub and fungus talk.. do you see the grill in the landscape.. do you see the gravedigger on the PATIO…to many clues here not to point to foot traffic, you guys you wanna know if you got grubs 17 birds landed in your lawn, all at once, all the grass around yards and all not a bird in site. If you treat this classic foot traffic issue with grub killer dont forget to hit it with some nitrogen. My chemical romance?
