Housing the French-style North Garden, the Italianate Center Garden, and the English-style South Garden, Central Park’s Conservatory Garden is a destination for varied visitors — neighbourhood residents, tourists, wedding parties, and photoshoots included. The six-acre garden, possibly among the most popular in New York, has officially reopened after a three-year and USD 25 billion (approximately HKD 196.25  billion) restoration, blooming anew with modern fountains, ramps, disease-resistant trees, and more.

Just in time for the kind summer sun: Central Park’s Conservatory Garden reopens

Central Park’s sole formal garden, the Conservatory Garden, has undergone its most significant transformation since its opening in 1937. A few years hence, the garden’s horticultural aspects were addressed in 1983. The recent makeover brings renewed focus to its historic hardscape, and renovated elements like:

Enhanced stormwater drainage
Restored historic bluestone pavers
New ramps and realigned paths
Modernised fountains and electrical systems
Replanted crabapple allées in the Italian Garden with disease-resistant trees
Repaired steel pergola
Restored benches and stairways

The reopening of Conservatory Garden is a part of Central Park’s broader renovation effort, which also extends to Davis Center at Harlem Meer (which reopened on April 26, 2025, following a USD 160 million/approximately HKD 1.256 billion restoration) and the iconic Delacorte Theater (slated to open in the summer of 2025) where Shakespeare in the Park is staged every summer (August 7, 2025 to September 14, 2025).
