Garden Products at Dollar Tree: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

This video shows some of Dollar Tree’s offerings for their gardening supplies, and what I think about them/my experiences with some of them. Gardening can be expensive, but it doesn’t always have to be, but you also want to make sure you get items that will last!

[Music] it’s that time of year again Dollar Tree has started to stock their Garden Products sadly they aren’t really a Dollar Tree anymore since most things are $125 now but they are also starting to have items that cost a few dollars more they do have lots of products and some of this stuff can be a good deal and other stuff not so much so let me tell you what I think is worth getting from the Dollar Tree for your garden and what I’d pass on first up are their hand tools and pruning chairs they have serrated bypass and needle point pruning I have them all and they have held up well over the years so these are all a great buy and these metal hooks that are actually out of place are great for bird feeders so they are a good buy however these hose nozzles are not a good buy I would pass on these they feel really cheap they don’t work really well and they do crack over here we have some more hand tools and here are some more of those hooks and then we have these plant clips for the amount that you get it’s a good deal but the quality just isn’t there they will crack and break and probably only last one season if that these plastic containers I would pass on they are not made to last and they will get very brittle and crack and then you’ll have tiny shards of plastic all over your garden which is not fun and I learned this the hard way even if you were planning on using these just to pot some plants up before you transplant them into your garden I would still pass on these because they are so weak and brittle they crack and bend really easily and you are are probably hoarding some large yogurt containers or something similar at your house which will do just fine and work better than these ah the infamous stackable Planters these Planters are actually quite good a few years ago they had a really cute smaller sized one but I don’t see them this year but it looks like there’s medium and large but despite the other plastic planters that the Dollar Tree offers not lasting long these so far have lasted for about 4 years for me now so I’d say they’re worth it these smaller Shepherd’s Hooks and trellises are actually not bad so they’re a good buy here are some of the pricier items there is a wind spinner here I don’t know how well it would actually spin though I am so tempted to get it but I’ll probably pass on it and then there are some solar lights here and some other decorative items it looks like we have some plant stands here $5 H they might be a good deal they might rust easily though that’s the only thing I’d be worried about they have the buzzy brand Strawberry Basket kit I feel like I’m at the dollar spot at Target looks like they have some potting soil here this is $3 a bag it looks like it is Miracle Grow brand I know a lot of people have issues with that brand but it’s a good buy I guess if you don’t mind it and then there are some bags of lawn seed these look new gardening knee pads they are $5 they might be a good deal it just depends on how well they last if they last more than a season then they’re probably worth it $5 for a folding pruning saw if it actually works that could be a good deal I’d pass on these plant closes they are not sturdy at all they won’t last if you really want a plant Clos I would actually spend money on a nicer one that will last longer more plastic Planters don’t buy these these turned to dust on me in my garden and the cleanup was not fun down here we have some garden decor for $125 I would say it’s worth it but this Garden fencing is not worth it for the amount of pieces that you would need to buy you’d end up spending a lot of money so you might as well spend that money on getting something nicer these hanging baskets are nice I don’t see the cocoa liners that they used to sell but those were trash so get the basket but get a nicer cocoa liner I’d pass on these flower solar staks I had the same ones and the petals broke off and the light wasn’t very bright we have some hummingbird food here it says it doesn’t have dye in it but this isn’t a good deal this will only make one maybe two batches of nectar and you can just make nectar with white sugar and water so this is definitely not a good deal the hummingbird feeders aren’t great either but if you don’t have the budget for a NIC or glass hummingbird feeder this is better than nothing but the color does fade pretty quickly I think these sew blocks for bird feeders might be new this year and at $125 I think they are a good price because I’m pretty sure I’ve seen them at Walmart for about two or $3 I’d pass on these kneeling pads because after a while the color starts to leech for me these cloth gloves just don’t last but it looks like they have some other gloves that might be better I would be willing to try them for $125 these wind spinners are cute but they do lose their color but even after they lose their color they’re still cute these plant saucers are a good deal except I would only use them for indoor house plants because it’s the sun outside that makes the plastic crack so if you’re just keeping them indoors they would be a good buy don’t buy these plant labels you can literally use anything else that will last long these won’t even last the season these are cute but unfortunately they get rusty really easily and they start to degrade pretty quickly so I’d pass on them seed starting green houses I would pass on these These are so weak and brittle and they won’t last I would just repurpose some food packaging containers instead cute little sprinkler heads pass they don’t work the one that I bought a couple years ago broke almost instantly these thermometers are actually a good deal because I did find them to be quite accurate another sprinkler another past anything that is going to be out in the sun that is made out of plastic should not come from the Dollar Tree because it is not going to be high quality we’ve got some more garden decor these are a pretty good deal for $125 and they’re pretty cute more saucers again I would only use these for house plants indoors not outdoors I Loved These welcome signs especially the mushroom one but the graphic is very blurry and it felt really weak and I feel like it would get rusty really quickly so I passed on it okay these wire baskets are not in the garden section but they should be they are great for putting over your plants to protect them from the critters in your yard like squirrels that like to dig plants up they come in white and black and they come in different sizes and shapes and you can still water your plants with them and your plants still get light so these are perfect these flower Rockets I’ve not tried before but for $125 I think they are a good deal these larger packs of flowers seeds are a great deal especially if you’re the type of person that likes to chaos SE and just wants to throw out a bunch of flower seeds this is my favorite part of the Dollar Tree Garden section and that is their seed packet display for $125 you can get four packets of seeds and there is always such a great selection and I have had really good luck with these seeds and at this price you really can’t beat it so these are definitely worth getting I wasn’t planning on buying anything but this was just way too cute and I have the perfect spot for it [Music]
