I will tell you a small myth, some people have told in their videos that in Bougainvillea, flowering is at the tip, which is completely wrong. Bougainvillea is such a plant that does flowering at the tip and in the entire stem, you will find flowering anywhere in it. Bougainvillea is a very beautiful flowering plant in the summer season. It is such a plant that comes in so many colors, take red, orange, pink, peach, yellow, magenta, it comes in many colors. And it is also a medicinal plant along with flowering. The biggest thing is that it is such a plant that easily survives in the summer as well. It remains fine up to 40-45 degrees Celsius. This is a very hardy, very strong plant that grows very fast. In a way, I can call it a wild plant. The quality of this plant is to grow fast. For this reason, the practicals of bio are made in Bougainvillea. Because it grows very fast. And let me tell you, it grows like a tree. People put it on their boundary. I put it on the corner of my balcony. The whole balcony is full of flowers. This is a plant that has thorns. If you have pets, children, or if you are also grazing. Then wear gloves. One more thing, its flowers are a little unique. Other plants have buds. The buds are a little big and then they bloom. But what happens in this? It seems that only the leaves have changed color. I am giving you a little technical knowledge. Its flowers are small inside. This is its flower. And the colorful flowers that you see next to it, which we call flowers, are actually bracts. Nature has made them to cover these small flowers. But we are not calling that small one a flower. The colorful one that is visible, we will call it a flower in this video. This video has already started. And in this video, I am going to give you all the information A to Z. So that you can also grow Bougainvillea like a pro. So let’s start. People say that Bougainvillea should not be given water. Very little water should be given. Water should be stopped. Is this true? Absolutely. This is absolutely true. If your Bougainvillea plant is all right, you are giving water well, giving sunlight, giving manure, pruning, everything is fine, but it is not flowering, you stop the water a little. At least the top 4 inches of soil should be dry. When its leaves bend, when it tells that I want water, then you give water. It is best for it. But there is a twist here. If the temperature has reached 42 degrees Celsius, then you will not do this at all. The heat is too much, the sun is very bright, and if you do not give it water, then it can dry. If the temperature is high, the heat is too much, then you do not need flowering, you just have to protect it. You have to save it. Bougainvillea is a typical summer plant. In India, it grows very easily from the end of February to November. But there are some months in which its flowering is at its peak. In the spring season, i.e. in Feb-March, and its other peak time is September-October. At this time, there is a lot of flowering in Bougainvillea. But this is a permanent perennial plant. This is not a seasonal plant. It is not that the heat is gone and Bougainvillea is bad. It is not like that. It flowers even in winter. My Bougainvillea, which is very old, flowers less in winter. When it gets cold, it will go into stress. It will become a little weak. You may see its growth light or not. As the season changes, as spring comes, as February comes, it starts flowering again. It is easily available in a nursery. If you go to a big nursery, you will get all the colors. But if you go to a small nursery, you will get a few colors like pink, white, yellow. If you want to buy it, then it will be best if you buy it in March, April, May, June, July, August. After that, the weather starts getting cold. But if you want to plant it with cuttings, then either you will plant it in spring, February or March, or you can also plant it in the rain with cuttings. And the rates of nursery in 2025, you will get it very easily from 50 to 250 rupees. So don’t invest a lot of money on Bougainvillea. Bougainvillea is a typical outdoor plant. You have to keep it outside and it needs at least 4 to 5 hours of sunlight. If you keep it in less sunlight, then it is possible that it will flower a little. But it won’t flower a lot. And it is not that if you keep it in less sunlight, then your Bougainvillea will spoil. No, my Bougainvillea hardly gets 1 to 2 hours of sunlight. It is flowering properly, so it is not very good. But all these Bougainvilleas get a lot of sunlight. They get at least 5 hours of sunlight. And they flower a lot. But yes, if it is too hot, the temperature is above 45 degrees Celsius, the sun is shining very brightly, then you should save it a little. If possible, then keep it in a shade or put a green net over it. Otherwise, it can swing. Whenever you buy it, you will not shift it to any pot immediately. You will keep it in such a place for 2-3 days, do not keep it in direct sunlight. And if the soil is dry, then water it. After 2-3 days, if you feel that everything is fine, my plant is good, then you can shift it to any of your pot or pottery. Or if you want to plant it in the ground, then you can plant it. Whenever you shift it, always do it in the evening. Let me tell you one thing, the chances of repotting of this Bougainvillea are equal to none. Secondly, if I already have Bougainvillea at my home, which is 1-1.5-2 years old, when should I repot it? If the situation comes that there is no soil left, there are only roots. The roots suffocate, the growth of the plant stops, and the flowering also stops. So what do we have to do? In some time, we have to remove such plants. Either you shift them to a big pot, where it gets space. Or you have to cut its roots and make it lighter, and then plant it in the same pot. So I do this every other year. Like I did root pruning in 2023, then I did root pruning in 2025. It is very important to do this. I have made a video on root pruning. You must watch it and do it after that. So you can either repot or root prune it in the spring or in the rainy season. Let’s talk about its pot. It is very important. There are many people who say that Bougainvillea is not getting set in our house. Please plant Bougainvillea in a clay pot. It gets set very well in a clay pot. And 12-inch pot. See, if you have space, you can plant it in 14, 16, or 18. It is up to you. But it grows easily in a 12-inch pot. All my Bougainvillea that comes in the beginning are all in a clay pot. But now my plants have become too much. And the weight has become too much. And they are all 5, 6, 8, 10 years old. They have become too super hard. So now I am shifting them in a plastic pot. But initially I had kept all of them in a clay pot. If you want that the Bougainvillea that you have brought should not create any tension at all. There should not be any problem in it. Then you put it in a 12-inch clay pot. I have seen many times that Bougainvillea is not getting set in many people’s house. The reason may be that the soil is not perfect. The soil of Bougainvillea should neither be too soft nor it should be too smooth. Take whatever soil you have here. Clean it well. Now we will put compost in it. You can take any compost. Your soil is 4 kg. So the compost will be less than half. Assume that 1.5 kg. Take a quarter of the compost. Very little. Take a little less than the amount of cocopeat. Take a little fungicide. I am putting some seaweed granules in it because we have kept very little compost. I am putting wood ash. This is completely optional. Mix it well. We will put Bougainvillea in it. In all my other outdoor plants, I keep the amount of compost and cocopeat a little higher. But in Bougainvillea, I have kept these two quantities less. Because if the soil of Bougainvillea is very soft, then this plant starts to be crooked. And it doesn’t like a lot of moisture and soft soil. It likes a little tight soil. Now I am going to talk about pruning. Bougainvillea is a plant that if there is no pruning from time, then its beauty does not come out. There are three types of pruning in it, which is very important. First, I have already told you that in February, or you take it out in the monsoon season, do its root pruning and then apply it. So this is the first pruning that I do in every alternate year. Its second pruning is very important and that is hard pruning. After the cold is over, you will see that it has become a little weak. Its stalks are thin and dry. In hard pruning, we cut about 80% of the top of the plant. We prune and prune. If you don’t do this, then your bougainvillea will remain weak for a week. The ground is different, but when we do gardening in a container, then it is necessary for us to do all this. There is a right way to do hard pruning and there are some rules, otherwise the plant gets spoiled. That is, what to keep in mind while doing hard pruning, which fertilizer to give after doing it, where to keep it, how many leaves will come, you will get all this in one video. The third is its soft pruning, in which we keep pruning it from above. This is very important. I prune it every 15 days. This is such a plant, it will grow anywhere. Sometimes it grows from there, sometimes from there, and sometimes from there. And there are thorns in it. So it is very important to bring it in shape. If you want it to fall on the side, then you have to mold it in that way. You have to prune it. And the more you prune it, the more it will flower. Pruning of all three is very important. If you are giving good water, giving good sunlight, giving everything, but not pruning it, it will not have back to back flowering. See how I am doing it. This is the plant. This is its branch. Bougainvillea is a plant in which I have never till date, seen any problem with it. And I have never seen any problem with insects. There are no mealybugs, aphids or spider mites. I have never seen any problem. I have never had to do any treatment. But, when I spray neem leaves in all my plants, or spray plant protector, then I spray it too. This is very important. Bougainvillea is such a plant which flowers almost the whole year. And if you want it to flower back to back, then you have to give it some fertilizers. You have to give some fertilizer every month. Sometimes I give Cowdung liquid, sometimes I give Prime Plus, sometimes I give Seaweed. Whatever you feel like, whenever you feel like, give it. But in extreme cold, when the temperature is around 10 degrees, or when the temperature is above 40, do not give any fertilizer. Apart from that, once in a month, give any fertilizer. Give organic, it is better. Some people give UDR, DAP, NPK. So I do not suggest. The rest is your choice. But there is one fertilizer, which he likes a lot. He likes it very much. This does not happen in every plant. Like Rose, it is not that it has a favorite. But Bougainvillea’s favorite is Mustard Cake Fertilizer. When I know that its peak time is coming, like I know that around the spring, it will flower a lot, and the temperature is also under control. I give Mustard Cake Fertilizer in it. When the soil is about 4 inches dry, give it to it. If the temperature is above 35 degrees Celsius, then I avoid Mustard Cake Fertilizer because it is very hot. If this plant gets Mustard Cake Fertilizer, then one is its growth is very fast. It has a lot of flowering speed. It means that it has a lot of flowering speed. It means that if I give it today, then in 2-3 days it will be full of flowers. And its leaves also shine. And its leaves also shine. Now, if flowering has stopped in your plant, then what to do? And according to you, water, manure, sunlight, everything is right. First of all, you check that somewhere in your Bougainvillea, the root is not bound. If the root is bound, then the flowering stops. You will have to give space for its roots. It will tolerate to some extent, but then the flowering stops. Second thing, when you feel that there is a lot of flowering in your Bougainvillea. And now these flowers are slightly drying. Now this flowering is decreasing. You spray it. Third thing is, if sunlight and everything is fine, but there is a problem, then stop watering in flowering. When you will water it 2-3 times, then it will flower.
