CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – The Piedmont Master Gardeners are putting the spotlight on pollinators.

From planting native flowers to skipping pesticides, volunteers say small changes in your yard can support bees, butterflies, and other essential species.

Their goal is to make pollinator protection part of daily life, not just a one-time event.

“Human food relies on pollinators,” said Kathi Marshall with the Piedmont Master Gardeners. “That’s a big amount and so we’ve got to make sure we’re keeping these guys growing, so we don’t want pesticides so important not to just get rid of an insect because you think it’s hurting your plant.”

The Piedmont Master Gardeners says if you have any questions about products or pollinators, you can reach out.
