  1. what the heck it can survive with that little soil?

  2. Worried_Arachnid_618

That’s crazy and mine here in perfect soil is struggling 😂

  3. MBFarrs86

Yup. Plants grow up through cracks in the concrete all the time. I wonder how the seeds got there.

  4. Effective-Growth2602

Love the fact that even when things are rough you can still grow 🙂

  5. this is where tomatoes go when they are pecked by birds

  6. OrangeCreamPushPop

you should pick the tomatoes for the seeds

  7. Prestigious_Pie9421

That’s gonna be hard to stake up 😳

  8. spaetzlechick

These types of pics are why I always kinda laugh when I read the “omg there’s a spot on the leaf of my tomato plant – can it be saved???” posts.

  9. Someone got tired of fighting bacterial wilt disease and paved over their garden. I’m glad to see it worked

Volunteer tomatoes are such assholes aren’t they? I’ve seen a massive perfect beefsteak growing behind a dumpster at a quick lube, more or less where the potheads who work there illegally dump used antifreeze.

Meanwhile… my babied romas are at home in perfect soil and curated light… wheezing like little bitches.

Gardening is like owning a cat. Expect every effort to be unrequited.

  11. I have popup Everglades tomatoes all over the place.

  12. This solidifies the chaos gardening ways for me 😆

  13. detblue524

I live in NYC and I’ve seen amazing looking tomato plants growing through cracks in the sidewalk before

Someone needs to prop that warrior up and give it a free drink of water!

  15. socioeconomicfactor

The fruit might have too much lead to eat, but save the seed because that plant is a trooper

  16. ShapedLikeAnEgg

What makes me so mad about this picture, is that this damned tomato plant probably grew from someone throwing their burger at the wall some months ago.

  17. MissLuuuna

Ah, the beauty of nature, lol. I have lettuce and oregano growing the same way from seeds that were spread with the wind.

Forget natural and plastic mulch! The lastest in mulching is asphalt! It warms the soil and keeps those weeds away. Come join the next generation of gardeners and remember, if you dont use asphalt, the weeds are your fault.

  19. HouseOfAplesaus

The Marlboro light really added the right nutrients for a strong stalk.

  20. dimeshortofadollar

I say this all the time. People kill tomatoes by over babying them (over watering, over fertilizing etc.) Tomatoes really do grow like weeds, they almost prefer neglect lol. I’m always pulling up extras that grow around my property

  21. Just shows the power of nature and reminds u that the best gardening isn’t bending nature to ur desire but instead, going with what best suits an area…say like a parking lot up against a wall

  22. Mendonesiac

That tomato appears to be immune to tobacco mosaic virus

  23. Early_Stage_6209

Doing better than my tomatoes are in raised bed with a greenhouse, top of the line soil/fertilizer, and grow lights smh

  24. I work at an Italian restaurant and this happens to us all the time

  25. Safe-Progress9126

You should collect the seeds and grow hybrids. That plant is hardy AF

  26. JoeyRottens

You should have put a trigger warning on this. There are people out there battling bugs and caterpillars that are losing thier minds rn.
My first garden, I scattered 1 pack of tomatillos in a small area, ended up hacking them out with a machete from taking over my garden. Haven’t been able to get one to take in 15 years. “It be like that sometimes”- Abe Lincoln, probably.

Tomatoes just laugh at many of us.

They will grow mightily in a compost heap and in a crack in a sidewalk, but put them in a nice garden where we baby them….and nooooo…blossum end rot…split skins…and big worms chewing on them!!

    Haha, foolish gardener!

Gave up years ago and just grow a grape tomato plant. They don’t give a rip about being in a garden. They just produce with no fuss. Great in salads. So sweet.

I love tomatoes. One day I woke up and realized a tomato plant was growing in my yard. I never planted anything, as my soil was in the middle of Los Angeles and had decades old batteries in it when I tried to dig up a sample. This soil had almost no nutrients in it and had lots of trash buried in it from the previous tenants. I hadn’t even been watering bc I didn’t know anything was growing out there.

Yet a random tomato plant just absolutely thrived in my yard. Like, go little rockstar.
