MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) – A local non-profit tended to a garden with a purpose on Sunday.
MoxieMoms held its Planting Hope event at its memorial garden on Fifth and Spring Street in Marquette. The group is a non-profit with a mission to support families that have gone through the loss of a child.
Volunteers got their hands dirty, beautifying the garden for the broader community to enjoy. Green Space Coordinator Ashley Lucas says the garden has symbolic meaning.
“Every year there’s hope for new life, rebirth, reblooming,” Lucas said. “And I think the garden is a beautiful way to acknowledge the ones that are no longer with us and a place where families can come and memorialize their babies that are no longer here.”
Lucas says all plants in the garden were donated by community groups or individuals. If you’d like to learn more about MoxieMoms or donate to support the group’s cause, click here.
