you know studies show that gardening is linked to increased happiness and improved mental and physical health and I think that you will agree with me that that is a really good thing so today I’m going to take you on a tour of my garden and I’m going to show you how to plant up your spring garden containers with beautiful combination of my very favorite plants and one of my all-time favorite garden DIYs that will cost you nothing and you can put together in about 5 minutes welcome to my garden okay the first place that I want to stop on our little tour is right here at my rose bed so this is a raised bed i have six raised beds in this garden i’ve got three on this side of the patio and three on the other side of the patio that I’ll show you in a minute this bed is full of some of my very favorite roses they’re David Austin roses we got them bare root and planted them out two years ago now it’s been 2 years so at the back these beautiful pink roses are Princess Alexandra of Kent they’re absolutely gorgeous and they smell amazing and then the front the light pink that’s Estacia V and I love those as well they’re so delicate and the color is beautiful both of the rose varieties have a slight coral undertone even though they’re pink so they have a a warm pink glow and they’re so beautiful i love this time of year because this is the first big flush of roses so we get these massive blooms they smell amazing there’s no like bugs in the garden i mean there’s bugs in the garden but you know bad bugs no aphids yet none of that stuff um and they just look so fresh and beautiful now underneath the roses in this bed I have planted white whirling gar so it’s a beautiful uh prolific bloomer they’ll they’ll bloom all year long or all summer long and they’ve got these really beautiful white delicate flowers that the hummingbirds and the bees are obsessed with now yes I said bees because we also have an entire beehive back behind the garden our bee coach we have a bee coach she actually came a few weeks ago when we were able to open up the hive we added 1,000 new bees to our hive so adding the bees to our garden we did that last year um it it really made us very very aware of all of the plants that we have in the garden and what the bees need in order to be great honey producers and have a really healthy hive so that’s always in the back of our mind as we’re planting out our garden okay now the bed behind me doesn’t look like much right now but it will don’t you worry this is one of my two Dalia raised beds so we planted out our Dalia tubers it’s been about a week and a half now and they’re all inside of this bed we added this structure this year we didn’t have this last year the Dalas get really really big like 6 ft tall so we needed some type of support structure so we put this together actually last week and I’m hoping it it works out well for us now in this bed I have got tons of different Dalia varieties but some new ones for this year are I’ve got Sierra Glow right here and this one is rope starburst and of course I added in some more Cafe Olay because of all of the Dalia varieties Cafe Olay and Labyrinth are probably my very favorite so I want to show you one little surprise right here we’ve got our very first little chute coming out of the ground we planted these tubers about a week and a half ago maybe two weeks ago and our first little shoot’s coming out now this little baby right here is will grow to be about 6t tall and covered with massive dinner plate dalia blooms i mean if you want something that’s really really rewarding in your garden if you want to plant a cut flower that’s very rewarding I highly recommend Dalia now they don’t work great in our climate as far as like we have to work a lot to in order for them to bloom and and be happy because our climate is so hot and so humid but I will not be deterred i love Dalia so much that I’m willing to put in the work one other thing I want to say is that I’m sitting here looking at these little um garden signs i have put together a gardening guide with some of my favorite resources for seeds and tubers and organic fertilizer some of my very favorite garden tools things that I have over the past 3 years as we’ve put this garden together i’ve just really loved some tools and some of the some of the resources so I’ve put them together for you and linked my garden guide below the video now when I was designing the garden I knew I wanted the raised garden beds so we have six of them we have three on this side of the patio and then three on the other side of the patio but I also wanted everything to have perimeter beds so both sides have these beautiful perimeter beds where I have my hydrangeas and boxwoods and then I do some seasonal planting so these are all of our big limelight hydrangeas they will be filled with blooms probably in about a month from now and then we have everything lined in these beautiful boxwoods that we just cut and pruned back probably about a week ago so they’re looking really fresh right now and they’re all they’re all tidy and neat they’ll they’ll get a little weward throughout the summer we have to we have to prune them several times throughout the summer also this year I added in some Russian sage now this part of the bed last year for the last 2 years has been massive Alice oakleaf hydrangeas and honestly they got so big we had to take them out about a month ago and put them somewhere else in in the yard because they were like I don’t know 7t tall maybe and they were draping over the boxwoods killing the boxwoods it was just it wasn’t where they needed to be it wasn’t the ideal location for them so we had to transplant them somewhere else and we put the sage in there and I’m really excited about the Russian sage it’ll be it’ll get tall and beautiful and I love the scent and I love those beautiful delicate purple flowers now one thing that I will say I’m stopping right here because I have to just say that this is this is here for a reason we have got an entire community of hummingbirds that come back every year and visit us and so one of the important things about our garden is to make sure that we are supporting all the wildlife that lives in the area and all of the beautiful little Hummers that come back so this is Is this the most beautiful hummingbirds Peter you’ve ever seen probably not but my husband decided I had some really pretty copper ones last year and he decided they needed to be more visible for the hummingbirds so we’ve got this red hummingbird feeder and we’ve got one on the other side and he is so diligent about changing out their feed every few days they don’t like it when it gets stagnant apparently so there you go that’s why this is here now before we move on I want to show you this is our beautiful wisteria that honestly hasn’t bloomed a lot we’re not sure why we think it might be because it doesn’t get quite as much sun as it should but I’ve got these this is um amethyst fall so we’ve got the wisteria on the columns on both sides of the entrance up to the patio and it’s just really beautiful even if it doesn’t we have a couple little blooms on it but I love the greenery of it and I just love I think it’s very romantic looking i love it i want to walk over here real fast and show you a couple of other spots back at the back of the garden and then we’re going to get to planting out your spring garden containers so this raised bed this is the last of the raised beds on this side of the garden and it is filled with my peies so I’ve got a couple of different varieties in here and we had this whole bed also filled with spyhea but it got so big that we had to also transplant the spyhea somewhere else it just was it was like coming over the edges like a foot and a half and you couldn’t walk and anyways it got on my husband’s nerves oh we had to move it so what I thought for this year was that this would be a great bed to plant out some of my cosmos so we started cosmos and zenyas from seed about 5 weeks ago my son and my husband help me um start my seeds every year and it’s honestly a family affair and we love doing it and I love to watch all the little seedlings grow we have some grow lights and um they’ve been growing in their little seedling trays for the past 5 weeks so we’ve planted those out and I’m very excited about it i love cosmos they’re a really great if you are kind of our beginning gardener you want some really pretty prolific cut flowers that are pretty much like foolproof cosmos are a great option you can plant them from seed and start them as seedlings like we did or you can direct sew cosmos seeds straight into your garden beds i mean literally they they will grow you can just kind of throw them out they’re going to grow so that’s one of my favorites pro tip there this we’ve got a couple of different varieties this year that I did not have last year last year I had rubenza and I had oh I’m trying to think a couple of cupcake varieties this year I’ve got apricotta and I’ve got Zenia Zen Zena i don’t know even know how to say that but um and I I’m excited about them they’re different and new and they’ve got some really great color lastly before we go to our DIY actually I think that’s what I want to do next is this bed behind us so this is also one of the perimeter beds and I’ve got a ton of roses in here some of them are David Austin um Claire Austin actually i believe this is Claire Austin and then I’ve got Belinda’s Dream right here these roses are probably I’m trying to think 2 years old okay so they get huge we have to cut them back throughout the summer they get really really tall and of course we cut back all of our roses probably a couple months ago so there’s been a ton of growth since then and this will just be filled with roses all summer long which is music to my ears okay let’s go and I want to show you one of my very favorite garden DIYs that will bring so much charm and romance to either a container if you have a container on your patio or on your balcony of your apartment front porch or if you want to put this DIY idea to use in your garden beds you can do that as well okay I want to show you’re gonna love it so I want to show you how easy these are to make and you can make them yourself for your garden now you could put them in your flower beds or you could do them like I have them here inside of your pots and grow up roses or clatus or jasmine like I’ve done i just think it’s a really fun and easy and absolutely free DIY for your spring garden so let’s go make the other one okay here we go we’ve got our branches so these are oak limbs that have fallen down on our property we always manage to lose some oak trees throughout the year and we’ve had a big storm a couple weeks ago and then I’ve got just a little chicken wire collage that’s going to act as our support while I’m tying these branches together okay so I like for them to all be obviously about the same height and then they kind of arch out which I think makes a pretty structure as you’re putting the trellis together and then what I found out is if you can find one branch that has a little bit of a Y shape at the top what happens is it it it really helps stabilize the other two branches now you could probably do this with more than three but it is more it is easier to do if you have a helper but my helper is currently filming so it’s me by myself right now all right so I’ve got them just I’m using that little cloch just as a support at the bottom just to make them you know kind of stay the way I want to and then got them all up at the top together i’m just going to take some garden twine this is just like normal brown twine and then just tie the tops together and don’t worry about this being perfect cuz it doesn’t have to be perfect cuz it’s cottage garden style where nothing is perfect everything is forgiving okay we’re going to tie that just in a knot as tight as you can i mean it’s not going to get super tight cuz it’s twine but there you go all right and then just start wrapping your twine around and you’re going to wrap it around quite a few times and get it as tight as you can kind of secure them the way that you want they’re going to the stem um branches are going to move around a little bit but once you put them into your pot or into the ground in your flower beds they’ll obviously stay this is just kind of as a little support at the top and I like using this natural twine because then it looks very you know naturalistic keeping with our cottage theme okay so I’ve got that done that looks pretty good I guess okay so then I’m just going to tie that off okay the next thing we’re going to do is just make a little support about halfway up on the trellis and what I found is that the river birch branches we have a bunch of river birches in the front of our property and they’re a little bit more malleable than some of the other things we have on the property you could use like grape vine or you could even use one of the vines from the jasmine for this but I like that the river birch has the same similar color as the as the oaks okay all right so I’ve cut it down it’s just like I want it to be a single a single stem like that and a single step okay so it’s a little bit some parts the parts down farther oh that’s not going to work okay so we need one more little piece of branch for our trellis and that’s just a really thin branch that we can wrap around the center of of it so I need it to be very bendable so we’re going to go down to the river birches and cut a really small limb off of the river birch because it’s super bendy and it’s going to be perfect okay I found the perfect branch but it’s it’s kind of tall and I’m kind of short so we’re going to see if I can get it down without without my cameraman’s help we’ll see i don’t know if this going to She’s going to try she’s going to reach okay she got it okay so I’m going to take the all of the leaves off of it but see how bendy it is so it’s going to be perfect to wrap around the middle of our trellis let’s go here we go trellising let’s go ahead and clip our little All the little side shoots need to come off so we’re just going to clip those off as we’re going back to our trellis see like that we just want one long limb or I guess not really limb stem branch what would it be called so I’ve stripped off almost all of our little leaves on our branch and now we’re ready to add it to our trellis and I like to do it with live branches like this because they’re so much easier to bend so the last of the leaves all righty here we go so now what we’re going to do is just take that piece and Oh heavens and just put it towards the middle this is just going to help keep it together i mean it’s not really like structural or anything like that but it does help once you start putting the legs of the trellis into the pot i think it helps it to have this little center stabilization piece and you can just wrap it around i’m going to fix it with some twine okay so we’ve got our little river birch stem wrapped around the center just to keep kind of keep the trellis together in the middle and I’m just going to tie it off like tie it on to the oak branches just so it stays in place and keeps everything tidy you mentioned the baby birds we do have baby birds do y’all hear those we have a couple of nests but there’s one in particular that’s right above the garden and let me tell you they are vocal they stopped they’re very loud it’s really sweet every time we come into the garden they’re asking their mama for more food okay so I’m going to do that to all three sides so that the center part is attached last one this is a really fast DIY too it’s perfect for spring gardening okay now I’m going to clip off the little extras and then we’re going to go and work our jasmine all the way up our new cottage trellis let’s go okay so I have taken the metal trellis out and I’ve got our jasmine just draped over here ready to go so now I just need to snug the trellis down into my pot going to turn this one this direction and this is kind of where another set of hands would be helpful but it is what it is okay I’m getting that in there okay I’ve got it snugged in my pot now now the task of weaving my jasmine in i mean obviously I can cut this back for next season but I don’t want to cut it back because it’s already spring and although it already bloomed it’s still really pretty and I like having some height in all of my little planters it just makes I don’t know just makes it look a little different and I think it’s really pretty right here in front of the wisteria so I’m going to ever so gently weave my rambunctious star jasmine up into my trellis trying to not break my trellis and trying to not break my jasmine oh goodness she’s she’s currently failing okay she got it we got it all right so it’s really long but what I did on the other side is I just kind of took it and attached it up here to the little top part and then those crazy pieces I just wo them back down and around the little stems and then it it’ll take about take a day or two but all of those little tendrils will sort themselves out and start growing and wrapping around our new trellis our DIY branch trellis look how cute okay now we need to add some really pretty plants to the bottom of this pot and I want to just talk about some of the different plant combinations I have and we’ve got a few more pots that we need to plant so before we start potting in some of our little annuals and perennials I want to remind you how important it is to make sure they’re well watered before you ever put them in their permanent pots for the spring and summer so what I like to do we’ve got this shallow sink outside and a really easy way to make sure that your plants are well watered before you put them in their pot is just by putting them in some water and letting them soak up you can do this you know 15 20 minutes before you pot them out and they’re going to be well watered and that way once you put them in their permanent spring and summer homes in your pots or even out in your garden they’re going to have that soil contact a lot it’s going to be a lot better than if the roots were dry and the roots are going to spread faster you don’t want to ever pot out a small plant like this that’s really dry into your garden or in your containers so we’re going to let them set for a minute and then we’ll pot okay so now that we have our most adorable and charming trelluses created I want to talk to you about your containers for spring so one of my pro tips when you are putting together your containers is to start with your most important specimen and for me that is the pink skyscraper salvia now it is it is an annual where we live but I put it in my garden and in my containers every year because it is the hummingbird’s absolute favorite thing so what I wanted to do this year when I was planting my containers was I wanted to make sure that I dotted that pink skyscraper salvia throughout all of the containers so there’s somewhere for the hummingbirds to go in every one of the container groupings and because of that pink color I knew that that was going to be the color palette that I was going to build out now the color of our house the color of our shutters the color of my roses and the other things that I have in my garden that sets the color palette for all of my containers so I like the colors of pinks and purples and whites that just looks really beautiful against the paint color of our house and the shutters and everything we’ve got going on so that’s the color story that I wanted to build out now when I am building out the containers and thinking about the combinations of plants I have to make sure that these are plants that are going to survive from spring all the way through until the first frost because we have a really unrelenting summer weather in Arkansas it gets super hot and it’s very very humid here so I have to think about that another thing that I wanted to do this year was bring in some more perennials into my garden containers because yes annuals are beautiful they give you a lot of color but I just felt like it was a waste of resources to just continually put annuals in every year and and then just kind of be a one time wonder so I wanted to add in some more perennials into all of my pots so that I can later pot them out into the garden okay so now that we’ve got all that talked about I want to go through some of the combinations and things that I just feel like work really well especially in our climate now when you’re putting your container together my pro tip or my kind of way that I think you is a great way to approach it is to have a thriller i you’ve probably heard this before but it’s really true and it’s super helpful a thriller which means something kind of tall the I guess it would be the like focal point of the pot your filler which is something kind of middle that that will branch out and give you a lot of volume in the center and then a spiller which is something that comes over the edge of the pot now I didn’t do that in every single one of my pots but most of them I do and it just makes a really beautiful combination so right here as you can see this right here I’ve got my pink skyscraper Salvia and then I always like to add in this Euphoria this is called Breathless and as the spring and summer goes on this will just start to get larger and larger it has these really delicate white flowers and it will bloom all summer long i absolutely highly recommend that breathless euphoria if you’re looking for something really delicate and romantic for your pots and then I’ve got this um this is mega copa blue and I love this because it’s going to trail out over the edges of the container and then of course I always like to add in I always like to add in ivy to my containers because a it just gives it some a variety it’s something that will spill over and I love using the variegated variety because it just makes all the pots feel a little bit lighter they just it add that little pop of white and I think it’s so pretty okay now then I I did see this massive plant at the garden center and I had to add it because I think the color is so beautiful so this is super tina vista this is silver berry and it’s just a great performing patunia patunias do really well here in the summer um and I love that it added such a big mass of white kind of that well pinky white to the grouping and looks really pretty and it pops behind it we’ve got our DIY uh trellis with the jasmine and then I’ve underplanted the jasmine with the euphoria and I’ve got let me see what do I have in there i’ve got some speed well in there as well i want to talk about these top containers as well so right here this is probably one of my favorite combinations in the containers and I’ve got this just like super bright pink geranium and then the euphoria as well and as you can see this this one’s been planted out a little bit longer so you can see how the euphoria just kind of starts to like come through the rest of the plants and just add that delicate little white flower and then the bakopa is down here as well and I love the color combination of it all i love the little purples like it’s almost like a blue purple combined with the pink now down in this container this is called fairy fanflower and this comes in hanging like baskets at the garden center and I will say that this particular plant does really really well in our hot humid climate so I always like to add in a couple of containers of that um every single summer and then back here I’ve got a container full of that same white whirling butterfly gar and it’s not blooming out yet but this is the same plant that I underplanted all of the roses with so it gives me it’s going to give me that repetition of texture and color and that’s something that I think is really important about garden design it’s just like when you are putting together your house’s interiors you want to have repetition of color and of material and texture it just gives it’s a great way to bring the eye throughout the space so when you’re planting out your garden and your containers think about reusing plant elements throughout your garden or throughout different containers so you have that repetition it just creates such a beautiful harmony now I want to show you a couple of more containers that are out here on what I like to call my container island and then we’re going to move to the other side of the garden so I like to make container islands in my pathways much to my husband’s sugar because it kind of like impedes the walkways for his for when he’s rolling the um our little trolley or the wheelbarrow but you know it looks really good so this is a really great example of how you can put together something that’s super dynamic in containers you don’t have to have a raised garden bed you can put a beautiful collection of flowers together in containers that will last you all season long so I want to show you first and foremost this clatus it’s not blooming yet but this was the inspiration behind our DIY trelluses we put this one together last year and decided to train the clatus up it and I just think it makes a really beautiful focal point on this side of the garden i underplanted the clatus this year with more of that pink skyscraper salvia so the hummingbirds had something up a little bit higher that they could get to and then I’ve got the euphoria tucked at the back and then this massive variegated ivy which I planted in this pot probably 2 years ago so it overwters fine out here it it’s just prolific and I love the way that it adds so much texture and backdrop to the plants that are down here below so I’ve got sage i’ve got this really I’ve got some more of the salvia in the pots and as you can see I’m just repeating a lot of the plant material that I had up on the steps now I added this denths here i’ve got the asparagus fern over there and just have created kind of that repetition that in pots that are wrapping around this central larger pot and it looks really really beautiful so as you can see I’ve got a mix of perennials and annuals but the main concern out here was to have a focal point something tall and beautiful to have blooms that will last all summer long and then of course to have something for our sweet little hummingbirds to come and visit some little flowers all right now I want to go to the other side of the garden and show you some of the things that we have going on over there but before we do I want to talk to you about this that I have been carrying around the garden with me and this is another pro tip that I think could be really helpful for you i know it’s been super helpful for me i started a garden journal 2 years ago once we put all of the flower beds in and the raised garden beds and planted everything out I started journaling everything that we did in the garden from year to year um it has been the most helpful thing of all of the things I’ve done in my garden this has been the most helpful because I’m able to go back from year to year and know what plants I have where know when something started blooming know when a pest arrived you know we have really bad we have really bad Japanese beetles here so I have kept track of when they arrive each year and so we’re able to be ready for them aphids all that kind of stuff our fertilizing schedule is in here and I even put notes about what has done well and what hasn’t done well so that I don’t you know some things just don’t work in our climate even though I try so keeping a journal of that has been invaluable if you want to make your gardening journey easier I highly recommend just adding a little gardening journal time to your efforts okay now let’s go to the other side of the garden i want to show you a couple of more of my very favorite things that I’m excited about blooming this year and give you a few more of my pro garden tips that hopefully will help you in your garden okay this side of the garden is magical it’s not quite as bloomed out as that side because this side gets a lot more shade so my containers are a little more chill i’ve got ferns ferns do really really well on this side of the garden i’ve got some double bloom impatience and then I’ve got some beonas in this these massive pots and I love them they look beautiful they just had to be a little bit more happy in the shade because this area especially gets some more shade now over here we have got those same perimeter beds and the three raised beds that we had on the other side so it’s very much symmetrical um and I I like that especially in a more English kind of wildl looking garden which is the type of garden I love i love the romance of that but having the symmetry set up with the actual perimeter beds and the raised beds and how they were laid out adds just a little bit tiny bit of formality to the madness of all of the plants on this side at the garden gate I have the Clare Austin climbing roses and you need to make sure that you tune back in in a few weeks because we’re actually going to do another garden DIY we’re going to be adding a pergola up here above so that my roses can climb up and we’re going to do it ourselves i think it’s going to be a fun project for my husband and I we’ll see we’ll see if it goes well so make sure you make sure you tune in for that then I want to show you up here so this is the main entrance gate to the garden from our driveway and this is the very first year that I’ve had bearded irises i’ve never done irises before but I really really wanted to have some because I had them at my childhood home so they’re a little bit nostalgic for me um I’ll link in the garden guide i’ll link where I got the irises from i’ve been really really impressed with how they’ve grown this is their first season to grow and they’re already this big i’ve got a couple of different varieties here i’ve got Enra Enraptured i’ve got anything for you and then friendly advice which just sounds like the sweetest Iris name of all time in this perimeter bed we actually just added this little bed last year because I was running out of room for plants and this is where we’ve got our jasmine this is Carolina jasmine and it’s training going up this um pergola here but I also needed some space so we added in I’ve got shasta daisies and then I’ve got some coropsis that is so tiny tiny this year right now but it’s going to get it’s going to be large and I I got a a really neat variety normally the coropsis flowers are like oranges and yellows but this one is called perma thread shades of rose so you’ll have to you’ll have to come back for a summer garden tour and we’ll see how those bloom out because right now they’re teenytiny they have no flowers but they will they will all right over here this raised bed has a really beautiful viburnum um it’s obviously not in bloom right now because the viburnum are the very first things in my entire garden to bloom so I’ve got snowball viburnum here and then I’ve got some double file viburnum trees on the other side i’ll show you in a sec now they’re just green leaves and they’ve actually kind of gotten a lot larger than I expected them to be so I don’t know i may end up having to move them at the end of the season now right now underneath the viburnum I’ve got a few leftover tulips they’re they’re they’ve just about done their bit but this week we are going to be planting out all of our Zenia seedlings so we started our Zenia seedlings when we started the cosmos about 5 weeks ago and this is the flower bed that I put all of the Zenia seedlings in last year and I really loved it and they did well so I’m going to put them back here this year in about oh I don’t know four five weeks time this bed will be full of zenyas that are probably this tall and they are going to give me cut flowers all summer long so if you’re looking for a really great and easy cut flower plant zenas are probably number two to the cosmos that I showed you earlier i’m going to link some of my very favorite places to get Zenia seeds in the garden guide that I’ve got linked below in the description so be sure to check those out if you want to try Zenas out this year year in your garden on this side this is another one of the perimeter beds like we had on the other side of the garden and of course I’ve got the climbing roses like I told you about i’ve got a limelight hydrangeanger in here so this will be full of hydrangeanger blooms in probably a month or so and then behind it on the garden fence I have a climbing hydrangeanger and we ended up having to transplant that from another location in the garden but it loves this area it is just it is growing like a weed over here so I know that it is right plant right place down here at the end I’ve added in a few new varieties in addition to our echgonatia so this whole entire bed is filled with purple cone flowers the echgonatia and I’ve done that for a couple of reasons one is because it does really really well in our climate echanatia this is um just one of the very best plants for our garden uh it it deals with our heat and humidity really well plus the bees are obsessed with the echgonatia so we have to make sure we have tons of it in the garden the last thing over here in the corner I’ve added in this is new for this year i’ve got some verbena and then I have some fox love they don’t look like much right now but these little tiny babies are fox glove and this variety is Arctic Fox rose so hopefully in a month or so I’ll have some fox glove blooms that will be very exciting so now I want to walk down to the last little section of the garden and show you something that I’m very very excited about first this is the double file viburnum that I was telling you about and we have tree varieties in this bed and honestly they kind of took over the bed i mean I’m not going to put any other cut flowers in this bed because these trees have gotten so big but I will say this hummingbird feeder is probably the hummingbird’s favorite feeder in the garden because it’s nestled in these branches so strategically and they love they just love to eat right here a little farther along we’ve got our last raised bed and this was the very first season we had in this garden this is where I put vegetables we We had squash and okra and cucumbers and tons of different herbs but honestly it was a little underwhelming for me i think I we ended up with like 15 okra the tomatoes didn’t do very well the squash did okay but then we got it was just it didn’t give me as much joy as cut flowers do so I decided to turn this flower bed into a cut flower bed so right now I’ve got leftover um tulips in there but underneath the tulips I have this entire bed full of dalia tubers so a little later this week we’re going to add that same support structure to this bed that we had on the other side and then oh look look we already have one right here oh my goodness this is new look at that little guy right there okay that is one of the shoots coming up from the Dalas that’s exciting so this this bed needs to get its its support structure as well i do have back here in the corner a few of my herbs that don’t want full sun i have a a raised herb bed I’m going to show you in a second but these I’ve got thyme I’ve got some parsley and some oregano and they need like part sun so I’ve got them just tucked over here in the side of this bed and it’s it may not be the best combination as far as dalas and herbs but whatever you do what you what you need to do and this is a really great location for these herbs i know it is because they’ve done well in the past all right so here more of the limelight hydrangeas i cannot wait for these to bloom these blooms just cover this whole entire area and when you walk in from the garden gates kind of the first thing that you see the sight line is down this path and into the into the hydrangeas and it’s just really really beautiful we Okay you can see right here it’s hard kind of hard to see but this out but out on the perimeter of the fence is where we had to relocate all of our oakleaf hydrangeas they’re really big and they were just they were just taking over okay our last little area is this adorable trough so last year we had to add this to the garden because we ran out of spots to put our little seedlings we started way too many seedlings last year and I I had to plant them all out i just felt I felt very stressed out about not planting them having started them and not planning them out so we had to add a bunch of I actually put Cosmos and Zenyas in here which didn’t didn’t work out so well cuz they ended up being super tall and I couldn’t really cut them easily but this year I was able to put some herbs in this raised trough and I’ve got I’ve got strawberries I’ve got basil I’ve got sage dill rosemary we’ll see how that goes i managed to I managed to kill rosemary every year so I’m not sure if it’ll it’ll live or not but um I’m very excited and look we’ve got some strawberries our very first little crop of strawberries in there i’m really excited about that now I’ve got some mint down here pro tip on mint guys if you want to add mint to your garden which I love a summer mojito and I love having mint in the garden don’t put it with any of your other herbs and don’t put it in any of your flower beds it will take over it has I have I learned the hard way on that it took over an entire flower bed of mine took us three years to get rid of it so make sure that you contain your mint inside of a container now one last thing that I want to say one of my pro tips for your garden is that if you have the chance to create a little spot to sit and relax and enjoy all of your plants and flowers I highly recommend it this is one of my favorite spots throughout the spring and summer i love to come out here and enjoy a cup of coffee and just look at all the beautiful plants that I’m surrounded with remember gardening is about the journey it is about the planting and getting out and learning about flowers and plants and and your your environment but it’s also about just reflecting and having a moment of silence or a moment of baby birds can you hear me okay i hope that you have enjoyed the garden tour i hope it has inspired you to create something beautiful for yourself in your garden or on your patio or on your balcony in your containers and that you try the trellis DIY out please let me know how that goes i just think it’s such a fun and easy DIY and adds so much just like a little romantic charm to your containers or to your garden beds now if you want more garden inspiration and you want to see what this space looked like before we added in all the beds and all the flowers you will be shocked at the before and after i want you to meet me in this next video so I’ll see you there [Music]

  2. I am inspired to get some salvia and a hummingbird feeder. I have seen hummingbirds come up to my potted flowers on my porch.

  3. This is my favorite video! 🌸 I love how you consider the hummingbirds in your planting. I know orange is not in your color palette, but the hummingbirds love vermilionaire. Maybe add to something away from your other flowers! 🩷

  4. I am going to try the DIY trellis. I’ve been saving cut off broken limbs and branches for years now with the intent of making something for my garden.

  5. Loved this video your tips and your garden is absolutely beautiful. Also signed up for your garden guide book thank you so much. Looking forward to your videos.

  6. Totally off topic but I would like to know your curly hair tips, tricks, and products! Im learning to embrace my curls and not fight against them but its a process!

  7. I love your garden. You have an amazing personality and a beautiful soul.
I live in Arizona. It’s very hard to grow, but I go grow a lot different flowers and different vegetables

  8. Did you know that the red cup on the upper half of your hummingbird feeder is upside down? Maybe you did that so it wouldn't catch rain…but it is an ant moat. The ants love the nectar and can climb up to the feeder and be a nusance. This is designed so that when the ants crawl up, they will fall in to the moat and will not be able to get to the nectar.

  9. The hummingbirds love black and blue salvia ( salvia guaranitica) and it is perennial so you don’t need to replace every year.

  10. Fake video, this is obviously a stage home and there is no way a single person with a job put all this together themselves.

  11. Hummingbirds don't like it stagnant b/c it molds in the hot temps. If they drink it like that, it swells their tongue and they die.

  12. Just came upon your YouTube channel. Thank you for helpful info. Your hair is beautiful by the way. I have curly hair too. 😊. Just getting back into my flowers. Planning a rose garden so I think that is why your channel popped up.

  13. I have to replace annuals every year so I want perennials. What I do is I have the grass perennials in terracotta pots then each year plant annuals like petunias, breathless little white flowers, and other colorful flowers surrounding my grass plant. It's getting real expensive so I'm not too picky now. Your pot flower arrangement looks great against the paved step stones. Good idea, I have a small terracotta pot that I can use to plant mints.

  14. Thanks for sharing and I can’t wait to see the dahlias in bloom! BTW – your hummingbird feeder has an ant mote (The red cup hanging above the feeder), turn it right side up and fill it with water. 😊

  15. This is my first video I've seen of yours. Really like it! You mentioned heat and humidity when you talked about growing dahlias. I live in zone 8b… coastal NC. May I ask where you are? Thanks for this!

  16. Just found your channel, and it's beautiful. Do you have a link for that watering can? Thank you!

  17. Beautiful garden. I have a similar outdoor living area. You’ve inspired me to grow wisteria up my stone and wood columns. Mine are near identical to yours. Can you tell me what variety of wisteria you’re growing and how are you attaching them to the wooden parts of your columns? I’m going to grow mine in large pots. I hope it works. Thank you for sharing your Stunning garden🌿

  18. You are adorable! We can tell that gardening gives you joy.
You do realize that the branch that you wanted to encircle the trellis didn’t work at first because it was dry. The second branch worked because it is green.
