It can certainly feel overwhelming but once you’ve done it once, you will learn and gain experience and soon it will become second nature

I recommend watching ‘terrariumdesigns’ on YouTube as he has fantastic tutorials

As far as substrate goes I generally use a mixture of coco coir (1 part) sphagnum moss (1.5-2 parts) charcoal (0.25 parts) orchid bark (0.25 parts) worm castings (0.25-0.5 parts) and leaf litter (0.25 parts)

A drainage layer is certainly needed of atleast 1 inch to allow excess water to sit in and not rot the substrate. You can use any small stones such as pea gravel

Any light should be fine but make sure to give it a day/night cycle as plants need this
