Newbie plant mom here. My plan was to water this baby cactus a day after it got home and repoy it 2 weeks last later so it could adjust accordingly. Unfortunately I accidentally knocked it over a couple days ago. Now I'm seeing some discoloration at the base.

Should I just go ahead and repot and water it 2 week ahead of schedule? The secondary pot balancing it in the pic will be the one I use. I feel the soil is waaaay to loose. And before you ask, yes it will be put on a proper shelf soon.

Correction since I can’t edit image text: I’m thinking repotting and it watering it ONE week ahead of schedule.

Your ‘Moon Cactus’ is two plants grafted on top of each other. The top plant is parasitizing the dragonfruit cutting underneath it and will eventually die.

Go ahead and repot it, but don’t water unless the soil is bone dry. If you don’t want your plant to eventually die, you can separate the red top with a sterilized blade and leave the dragonfruit cutting to grow.

  3. If squishy, stem rot. If hard, it’s corking.

Split them up and keep the dragonfruit , it’s a much cooler plant anyways

Looks like the base of the stem is rotting.

If you gently take it out and brush off the soil you can see whether there are any roots still alive.

(As others have said, this isn’t one plant. It’s two cactuses grafted together. The top one can’t survive without the bottom one.)
