I just repotted my rhaphidophora decursiva to try and take to a moss pole. The most inspiring pictures of these for me usually have one strong vine with extra large leaves rather than the multiple vine smaller leaf growth patterns. With that in mind, is my plant too crowded right now? I count 4 stems with new leaves growing into each other already. Should I cut and propagate them leaving one behind or let it do its thing until something finds the pole?

  1. i have about 70 moss poles. You are right, one vine will usually be more vigorous. Typically, that one vine will reach the top first, and I’ll extend the pole, and then after the vigorous one has rooted into the new top pole, I’ll take the bottom pole off and sell the bottom part. Interestingly, if the plant is variagated, the vine with more green will always be more vigorous and I will prune it back for let the variagated vines grow up the pole.
