I was repotting my alocasia polly and planted the corms I found. Two of them sprouted!
I covered this planter in plastic wrap until I saw it sprouting to keep the humidity very high.

I did a bunch of black velvet corms by putting them in a glass with a bit of water and putting plastic wrap on top. Left them in there (changing water as needed) until they had lots of roots and the first sprouts started to form. It probably took a couple months, but it was winter when I did it too

They look upside down to me. The pointy end should be facing up
