I’m planning to take it very slow, mow high if at all, and water with a rain barrel, while I get rid of a little grass at a time.

Interested in function (food, hanging out space, and shade) and form both. I’m thinking of making the shed a centerpiece, once I’ve ensured it won’t need a ton of work that could disrupt any plantings. I’m on a tight budget and not really even sure where to start. But I’m excited!!

What sort of food are you hoping to plant? And what’s your growth zone? I find it’s pretty sweet to just grab clean produce from the grocery store that I plan on eating anyway and take seeds out of it and throw it in the ground and see what happens. That’s how I had started many years ago. These days I am able to buy Heritage seeds.

If you just want ground cover that’s edible, you could potentially grow thyme or oregano. Keep mint in a planter. Don’t let it go crazy. Then you always have herbs like chives that you can pick and will spread themselves over time.
