New to air plants. Have it perched on a door frame about 3-4 feet from a south facing window. I acquired him on June 7, first time watered on June 11, have not watered since. Are the tips browning from too much sun? Can I cut back the brown to help him out?

  1. This is a *bulbosa*. It has fewer trichomes and so can’t absorb water as well as your more familiar species which have leaves that look more fuzzy and/or silvery. This means it needs to be watered more often. 7 days is too long in my book, depending on your ambient humidity. Soak it once a week and mist it every two or three days. Let it dry well upside-down so water doesn’t get trapped in the bulbous base as that will lead to core rot. Cutting back the brown bits may help since there’s less dead material that can rot.

I spray / mist mine with water 1 to 2 times per day. So far so good.
