An ‘old-school’ riverside pub in Greater Manchester has been praised for having one of the best beer gardens.
The quirky Old Pint Pot pub, on Adelphi Street in Salford, overlooks the River Irwell and Peel Park – offering fantastic views of the borough’s industrial roots.
Situated across two floors, the pub is popular with University of Salford students and has been hailed for its ‘lively atmosphere’. It often features live bands and musicians – featuring students from the university – as well as hosting regular open mic nights and comedy shows.
Dotted alongside the walls, you’ll find posters making references to the likes of the Manchester Hippodrome and the Palace Theatre, as well as a quirky clock which, if you look closely, features a map of Salford.
Best described as a home for a megamix of styles and aesthetics, the pub – which is led by Marston’s – also has wallpaper walls featuring prominent fashion shoots and models, as well as outlandish rugs, mish-mashed chairs and an abundance of quirky signs to discover throughout the venue.

On its food menu, the pub serves a variety of dishes, including burgers, steaks, curries, and traditional pub fare, like sausage and mash, beef chilli, hunter’s chicken and a vegetarian Thai-style curry.
The outside terrace offers views of the horseshoe bend of the River Irwell and, as a result, is extremely popular during the sunnier months. In a review online, one customer said: “Such a beautiful place beside the river to get a pint with friends or family.”

Another said: “Cracking little watering hole. Gorgeous in the sunshine with lovely views of the river.” One other review said: “Picturesque setting down by the river, great for a relaxing pint. Welcoming & cozy inside.” Another added: “Nice old school pub by the river.”
The Irwell, which marks the boundary between Manchester and Salford, spans around 39 miles. Views of the river from the pub can sometimes include sights of herons, Canada Geese and ducks.

The Irwell also offers a number of walks that are popular with hikers and dog-walkers. One popular 3.4km trail, which takes less than an hour on average to complete, takes in the Adelphi Footbridge and features remnants of old mills and warehouses – historically important signs of the area’s industrial past.
It also features Peel Park, which is one of the oldest public parks in the country. Established in 1846, Peel Park was visited by Queen Victoria in 1851 and has also been depicted in numerous paintings by L.S. Lowry.
In 2017, the park underwent a huge £1.6m refurbishment and was added to the Register of Historic Parks and Gardens by Historic England in December 2023.
The Old Pint Pot is on Adelphi Street, Salford, M3 6EN.
