Celebrity home tours often highlight an estate’s most luxurious and outlandish features, but many of Hollywood’s biggest names are actually most proud of their gardens. While some A-listers hire groundskeepers to look after their crops, others dedicate hours of their spare time flexing their green thumb—and you might be surprised which celebrities have gardens they tend to themselves.
Celebrity gardens run the gamut. Some are a massive selection of crops, while others are a modest size. Mindy Kaling, for example, has been testing her skills with a few potted plants in her backyard, while Jennifer Garner’s home garden feels like a farm in its own right. Ahead, we’re giving you a peek inside seven celebrities’ prized patches and plots.

Zooey Deschanel
Zooey Deschanel is another celebrity on a mission to reconnect people with their food. The Harold and the Purple Crayon actress founded The Farm Project with her ex-husband, film producer Jacob Pechenik, with the initiative’s motto being “Know it or grow it.” Deschanel strives to cut out the middleman as much as possible; she grows a significant portion of her produce, and for what she doesn’t grow, she educates herself on its origin, ensuring that the foods she eats are as natural as possible. The former couple also cofounded Lettuce Grow, a hydroponic farmstand that self-waters and self-fertilizes, and it is said to “retain up to 60 percent more macronutrients” in its produce than store-bought fruits and vegetables.
