Hardy’s Cottage Garden Plants, based in Freefolk near Whitchurch, received the Platinum Award at BBC Gardeners’ World Live for its peat-free, British-grown perennials.
The display, a showcase of summer-flowering herbaceous perennials, featured both unusual and traditional plants and stood out for the quality of the plants.

(Image: Hardy’s Cottage Garden Plants) Rosy Hardy, founder of Hardy’s Cottage Garden Plants and honorary vice president of the RHS, said: “It’s fantastic to be awarded Platinum at BBC Gardeners’ World Live, which demonstrates that peat-free outdoor British-grown herbaceous perennials can be of the highest quality.
“Our next Hardy’s Cottage Garden Plants floral display will be at the RHS Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival and we’re working with Inspired Earth Garden design to supply plants for their RHS Feature Garden ‘Healer’s Hollow’.
“It’s an exciting time for British-grown flowers.”
The award adds to the nursery’s impressive track record, including 24 RHS Chelsea Gold medals.
The judging team praised both the quality of the perennials and the presentation of the display, emphasising that peat-free plants can meet the highest show standards.

The win follows further recognition at this year’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show, where plants grown at the Freefolk nursery featured in Gold and Silver-Gilt medal-winning gardens.
Hardy’s perennials were used in Jo Thompson’s RHS Gold medal-winning Glass House Garden, as well as in Katy Terry’s ADHD Foundation Garden and Nicola Oakey’s Songbird Survival Garden.
Those gardens, sponsored by Project Giving Back, have now been relocated to communities across the UK.
BBC Gardeners’ World Live and the Good Food Show Summer ran from Thursday, June 12 to Sunday, June 15 at the NEC in Birmingham.
Hardy’s Cottage Garden Plants exhibited in the Floral Marquee.
For those unable to attend the Birmingham event, the nursery in Freefolk Priors, Whitchurch is open seven days a week.
The nursery will next appear at the RHS Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival, where it will supply plants for the Inspired Earth Garden Design team’s feature garden, ‘Healer’s Hollow’.
