Welcome to another busy (and slightly chaotic!) week 💕
In this vlog, I’m revealing some of my absolute handbag must-haves ahead (well some of them!) of hosting a beauty event with some wonderful women, also i’ll be sharing just a few of the essentials I always pack for a busy day of filming outdoors as I head off for a long filming day in the rain!
This week, I’m also hosting three very different events — from said glamorous ladies’ brunch, to a huge awards ceremony with 450 guests, to a blustery morning in a field supporting a wonderful cause for a friend. It’s safe to say no two days are ever the same!
🌿 Plus, Chris and I finally make some garden decisions, picking out some beautiful shrubs with the help of @Gorgeous_Gardens and planning the design of our brand new garden border.
🎥 And there’s more: I team up with my TV husband Duncan Wood for a full day of filming right here on YouTube — (check the films out on the @GreatYorkshireShow YouTube channel!) sharing plenty of behind-the-scenes fun
I can’t wait to bring you along for it all!

More about Claire’s Story (Women’s Aid):
hello good morning welcome to the Calm Before the Storm this week’s going to be really busy it’s Tuesday morning and today I’m going to be hosting an event a beauty brunch at the Cut and Craft Restaurant in Leeds which is all part of Leeds Fashion Week and it’s alongside my friends Rachel Bernardet and Annie and for the first time really they’re going to be talking about their beauty secrets what they do about their hair they’re all silverhead classic models i’m doing the interviews but I might have to do a little bit myself in fact I have been asked to bring my must-have beauty favorites and I’ve been racking my brains because I there’s loads of things I use this there are a few things really I’ve learned from TV which I thought well I’ll do that as mine one of them is this Charlotte Tilbury 50 SPF Invisible UV Flawless Pore Primer i always use this because I just think it makes your face look a bit more settled somehow it takes away any imperfections and just makes the makeup work better also this which is something I carry with me everywhere living Proof Instant Deffrizz for my hair on dry days which is most days so I’ll probably show them that Bio Oil i don’t know if you ever used it i first started using this when I was pregnant and it’s great for stretch marks and all sorts of other things but my auntie had the most amazing skin uh she passed away last year she was 90 years old but she had beautiful skin as does my mom and one of the things that my auntie particularly used was Bio Oil she used to put it on every night so I do as well now and I also put on my elbows and any horrible bits like my hands i’ve got old lady hands it runs in our family i like to tell myself but yeah they are they are not great they’re the thinnest bit of me actually so bio oil and the other thing and I’ve lost the lid which is a bit embarrassing when I’m in a very stylish beauty brunch today in the Victoria quarter in Leeds is my airbrush setting spray which is a television thing i always used to put this on just keeps everything lasting a bit longer um so makeup if you get hot tends to stay in place a bit longer so I also used the MAC one as well which is the television one really but I couldn’t get that this time i’ve been using this um Charlotte Tilbury one which is also very good so those are my beauty secrets and that’s what I’m going to be showing at the beauty brunch today so here I am in Victoria Gate Leads it’s all very quiet at the moment but this is the Victoria Leadeds fashion week you see all the info on this big screen it’s just gone black oh here it is again we’re being very spoiled we’ve been invited to Danielle Drapers the jewelers in Victoria Gate and we were all being allowed to choose some jewelry to wear it’s all handmade jewelry by Danielle who’s from Grimby so local lass and we’ve been told that we can choose some jewelry to wear for the event today i’ve chosen these bracelets pendant look it’s gleaming and a ring that’s Emily is talking to Bernard there’s Rachel and there’s Annie so we shall be glittering for our event this morning our beauty brunch i’m going to show you some of the stuff in here [Music] well we’re all at the cut and craft in Le is it for Rachel Annie and Bernardet hi breakfast have been served is it a gorgeous menu that we’re in it’s lovely really is we’re excited to be here so are you ready to reveal your beauty secrets well yes yes and we’re going to be talking about like what our styles have evolved how they’ve evolved over the years what our must-have things are in our handbag all the secrets skin care wellness fashion path fashion path i want to be an easy one for these so we’re looking forward to that so it’s a lovely day out for for the girls here isn’t it for our final midlife magic team lovely to meet all these lovely ladies that we know through Instagram a lot of lovely people here so we’ll see you later bye bye bye bye [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] it’s 7:35 it’s Wednesday morning and I’m about to go on Radio York i’m going to be talking to my old friend Georgie Spanswick who’s the presenter of the breakfast show and um I’m going to be talking about the Great Yorkshire show and what’s coming up but also I’m going to ask her to be in the fashion show i’m hosting the fashion show and we want Georgie to be on the catwalk which will be quite fun so I’m going to bombard her with that one as soon as I get on the radio so I’m just waiting for the producers to ring me on here and uh and as you can see I’m also I’m I’m in my gym gear because I’m going to do Couch to 5K week 2 run three after this okay I’m just sitting here waiting and having a coffee i’m al I’m hosting the celebrity stage shows with the various celebrities that are coming along we’ve got Helen Skelton Rob and Dave Nicholson from Cannon Hall Farm Matt Baker and of course lovely Yorkshire vet Peter Wright and I’m going to be chatting to them on stage but I also this year I’m back hosting the fashion show which will take place in the middle of the day at 1 p.m every day and I’ve actually got something I’d like to put to you Georgie i know you like a bit of fashion i’m going to make you an offer looking at me Christine at this time of the morning you’d think twice actually you always look fantastic you’re very kind we would love you to be a model on the Tuesday fashion show christine and you can’t refuse how do you feel about that well if I can’t refuse it then I’m going to say yes ladies yes it’s going to be great um I hope you have I hope you’ve got the right size for me because we’ll sort you out because it’s it’s sponsored by Ariat ariat great Yorkshire show stage so there’s lots of clothes to choose from lots of great brands as well everyone will want to come along and see you strutting your stuff on the walk Georgie so you’ve got to get your tickets now we are going to have so much fun we are really going to have fun cannot wait christine thanks so much for coming on the show and I can’t wait to see you well thank you for having me morning i’m just getting ready to do a filming day today with the Great Yorkshire Show YouTube team our behind thes scenes look at everything that’s going on in the run-up to the show and I am just rushing to get ready because I have to be there at quart 9 to meet everybody and we’re going to do a whistle stop tour of the great Yorkshire Event Center grounds just to show all the stuff that the Yorkshire Agricultural Society does because everything that’s raised all the money raised at POSA the cafe the events that they hold there the great watcher show itself actually goes to supporting good agricultural organizations and charities and the farming sector in general but this charity which people know so that’s what we’re going to be finding out more about today a few filming essentials when you’re on location as a reporter I used to have to have everything in my boot but what I’m taking today I’ve got obviously my makeup bag i’ve got um a hairbrush i’ve got another pair of boots cuz I’m not sure how wet it’s going to be um I’ve got a diary i don’t know why I’ve got that i’ve got some anti-frizz hairspray which uh hopefully will keep my hair in place and some more hairspray i’ve got a little spare jumper because I’m not sure how cold it’s going to be but it has to be V-necked so that the mic won’t be up my neck i’ve got some antifrizz spray there’s that and my uh setting spray for makeup a little mirror some mints and my trusty hair straightener that I’m not sure whether I’ll take it’s another sweatshirt but I’m just going to put it all in a bag and um hopefully I’ll be equipped for the day and I’ve got my Mac as well because it’s going to be raining but we’ll see i’m not really sure how warm it’s going to be one more thing I’ve got a mobile phone charger so that can go in the bag and that’s it when I was a reporter out on the road every day for calendar and the BBC look at this um I would have a boot full of You’d have an over a big outdoor coat you’d have wellies hopefully I don’t need wellies today just everything for every eventuality really water you just never knew where you were going to get a scent i’ve spent so many hours on cold locations seafronts where my fingers would just go numb but that’s what you do and uh obviously today it’s a nice June day it’s summer and it will be very pleasant I hope and not too wet so there’s my bag packed and ready to go nice bright top V-neck for the mic jeans some sturdy shoes and this is quite important too briefing notes and script can you hear the rain just in the pavilions and we’re about to do some filming i’m gonna go out on that balcony and do the opening address for the video so everybody’s here setting up there’s Duncan Mark Joe Ollie who’s helping us Jen who’s doing social media and Becky who’s the manager of the whole area here there’s lots of events going to be happening here there’s actually a funeral in this room later so we need to get our filming done and then I’m going to go do a whistle stop tour of the whole area in a buggy in the rain onto the next venue we’re just in the buggy we’re going up to see Rachel Coats the show director and I’ve got my hood up there’s Jen and down here you can see there’s a lot of children here today and I’m going to be talking to some of the children and the teachers later they’re here for a countryside day where they find out all about how farming works and where their food comes from so it’s the day they do for hundreds of children the Yorkshire Agricultural Society put this on for the children and um they’re all just arriving i can see some of them over there here we are better I better stop filming with one hand and wool of course that’s the other by product the sheep have to be sheared every year they’re sheared at the end of May beginning of June and the reason for that is the wool is not actually very valuable the sheep has to be sheared because it gets too hot it’s a bit like you wearing your hoodie jersey every day on the hottest day of the year and you can’t take it off ollie’s just pointed out that I’ve just been chattering away on here and hadn’t pressed record for half an hour i mean it’s unbelievable isn’t it yeah so I think you know more about it than we do certainly this stuff so have you enjoyed today you got what you doing yeah i’ve just been um like holding equipment and finding more about like just Yeah what we do which we don’t know whether we’ve put him off or encouraged him i know to put he’s had a wonderful bacon sandwich from FOD so from that point of view it’s a winner isn’t it that’s well worth having isn’t it so you’re going to go into television as a job is that the plan yeah well I’m thinking about it yeah unless he’s been put off by us put off by us today hasn’t it you know oh well we hope to see you again soon it’s been lovely having you with us thank you and what were we doing now i don’t know no idea we’re back at Mark he’s doing all the camera work i’m filming you as well yeah gab my wife watches this hi Gab somebody does she’s my one viewer she likes your hair that’s why she watches she likes your hair we’ll just come to details again to see Dennis our friend who has this place here full of plants you can choose from and we’re with Sarah and we’re going through all her list and of ideas for our garden so that we can see the plants for ourselves and she can explain them better when we can actually see them evergreen uronous and they will um so obviously being evergreen they’re going to stay like that all year round and I quite like to shape them up a bit in one of these tunnels there’s a lot more of them and we can have a look at different ones this one’s a good one to go in because there’s lots of uh different things different leaf textures and flowers right These are lovely for this time of year uh they’re aspir they um this variety can keep its leaves in winter sometimes it does sometimes it doesn’t um but lovely and you can keep it trimmed it’s easy to look after just gets on with it more towards the or middle middle mid i like those yeah I’ve seen plants I’ve never I didn’t even realize existed they’re so nice what are they Sarah uh spya sp a lot but quite good to go at the back okay um and as I was saying before this one’s quite leggy but we try and keep it a bit more um under control it does have an arching sort of habit to it but it’s still a really nice plant and you can get it in green as well uh this is called Alex Cranata you can shape it it’s a really good substitute for box so Dennis is back we’re here with Dennis dennis has just made us some coffees and Sarah’s got a great list of all the plants that we need so she’s going to put those together you’re going to hold on to them for I’ll hold on to them for a couple of weeks away yeah then we’ll look after them and hopefully we see them in the garden you’ll see them in the garden flourishing in months to come you will in a couple of weeks to join to join the laurels as well to join the laurels yeah which featured before I think thanks i’m hosting the Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust Excellence Awards tonight down at the Royal Armories so it’s my honor to be the host to this huge crowd there’s 450 people here tonight all looking very glamorous so going to sit down for dinner in a moment and then the awards start about 9:00 so I’ve got lots of them it’s honoring all the staff and all the good work that they do within the NHS there are unsung hero awards volunteer awards people who led critical teams so it’s a very inspiring evening i’m really looking forward to it welcome to a very windy slightly wet Penniston this morning it’s Sunday morning a little bit jaded cuz I was at a party till late last night uh friend’s birthday and I’ve come up here this morning because I have the honor again of helping Cla Thros my good friend start a race a fun run of her two boys who were murdered by their father 10 years ago Jack and Paul and ever since then Cla has campaigned for changes in the custody rules and to strengthen a child’s view when custody arrangements are made or to make sure children are not put in harm’s way she’s constantly frustrated because nothing really has changed she’s managed to get twice 100,000 signatures so that the issue can be debated in parliament but then everything seems to stop happening so I’ll talk to Cla as well once the race gets going i’m just trying to keep warm at the moment it is June by the way [Music] so everybody has just set off they’re over that hill over there now I actually did film the start and somehow forgot to press the button so I ended up with a load of photographs which I will show you but a shame because Cla spoke so nicely but I’m going to have a chat with him now well while everyone’s running and they’re going to be a bit warmer than we are cuz it’s a bit chilly today isn’t it cla can you give me an update on what the situation is at the moment so at the moment we’ve pushed for the new victims and courts bill we embraced it but now we’ve found out that they are not part family courts coming back that was so quick already that is the quickest ever shall we do it in a moment should we do it in a moment yeah let’s do it we better go better be at the finish line all the medals here i’m giving them out as well it’s gone really well hasn’t it every more or less most people are back there’s a couple just coming in what does it mean every year to to have this race that everybody turns out claire it’s incredible um as a mom I always worry that they’re going to get forgotten as every year passes um I just think is a community still going to hold them in their hearts like they did and you know what they do they come out every year and it’s such a privilege to see everybody together and to feel that in the community in these tough times you know what we still come together on this and everyone supports you on a on a on a wet cold Sunday morning but they’re all here well done well done so now we’re off to do the medal ceremony now aren’t we we’re going to go give out all the trophies all the well-deserved trophies to see everybody together and feel this love is just incredible cla never fails to inspire me she is the most amazing lady i’m so glad to be able to show you my friend Cla and how she speaks and how passionate she is about changing lives for children um hopefully everything will work out for her o over the next year she’s been waiting a long time and this is their legacy it’s Jack and Paul’s legacy so it’s very very important to her and to everybody who knows her and loves her and also to children who hopefully will never face the same fate that poor Jack and Paul did just got back from doing my week two second run no week three week three week three second run which involves three minute runs so it was a bit harder this morning especially as we did have quite a heavy weekend two birthday parties so quite a lot of wine was involved uh one yesterday afternoon after I got back from the fun run for Jack and Paul with Cla Cla had handed me an envelope and part of the card was a necklace with a little star on it so there it is you can see it isn’t that absolutely lovely i shall treasure that thank you Cla didn’t need to do it but thank you sitting in the garden postworkout and I know he’s supposed to have protein so they say but Chris has made some sourdough toast with butter for himself [Music] for myself at all but he did say I can have a piece i actually don’t feel like anything much at the moment i never feel very hungry first thing first thing so I’m going to have a coffee and do some emails sitting in the garden you always say you don’t want any and then always look at it adoringly and I say I’m a piece you know you know you want one do I make you feel guilty always so yes a quieter day today although I have got a Zoom call at lunchtime with Midlife Magic Gang and Sarah’s coming around to talk about kitchen designs this afternoon and I’m actually meeting a friend for a few drinks tonight so even though it’s Monday naughty school night but thanks very much for watching the vlog hope you’ve enjoyed it like and subscribe if you do like it and you’d like to see more of them but for now have a great week and I’ll see you very soon bye-bye
