Best tips for harvesting onions ,
normally the top of the onion plants will turn yellow or dry out or even it will bend over. this is a clear indication the onion is ready to harvest.
but sometimes you would not have to sign the other sign you will have to pay attention to. If the top of your onion will come above the soil at least about 2 in height and the neck part of the onion will be fat and white. that’s another indication your onion is ready to harvest..
It’s always good to harvest your onions and leave them on a mesh or hang them up to dry so they could cure and last a longer time..

sometimes the top of the onion will not bend over or turn yellow or brown to let you know it’s harvest so you have to look if it’s coming above the soil and the top of the onion the neck part once that’s turned white and it seems like your onion is not growing anymore you could go ahead and harvest you could also prune out some of the stock at the top right there you don’t need all that grown on the top of the onion if you want bigger onion prune it add some nitrogen like grass clipping or Ed coffee

Nice
Not ready to be harvested
Nitrogen is the key until the bulbing stage. Side dress every two weeks. Nice looking onions.
So If prune the top of the onions and use for cooking and my onions will still keep growing? I planted onions this year for the first time so any tips would help. Thanks
