SYRACUSE, N.Y. — A new pollinator opens up at Onondaga Lake Park to grow new plants and help the local wildlife.
A new pollinator garden has been unveiled and is now open to the public at Onondaga Lake Park, located along the West Shore Trail. The garden aims to rejuvenate declining populations of birds and other pollinators by providing a sanctuary with carefully selected plants and residential flower beds.
“I’m going to evoke a baseball reference, birds are the ultimate believers in the field of dreams. If you build, they will come,” said Michael Burger, Executive Director of Audubon Connecticut and New York. “This is part of what makes them excellent indicators of ecosystem health.”
Organizers of the garden describe it as a “patchwork of green space”. It will evolve into a “quilt of restored habitat,” offering a vital refuge for native birds and beneficial insects.
