What has gone wrong with my terrarium and can it be fixed?
There seem to be little white like balls in the soil suddenly and I have noticed some small bugs too. What are they and can this be fixed or will it all have to be scrapped?
The ‘white balls’ are a type of saprophytic fungi that’s commonly found in potting soil. It’s not harmful and is often a sign of good soil composition. It helps to eat the decaying matter in your soil and helps to establish a healthy bioactive partnership with your plant by making the nutrients found in decaying materials more bioavailable to your plant after it has broken them down. Definitely a friend. It’s more prolific and therefore apparent in moist soil and can be made less apparent by drying out the soil. It will also become less evident the less decaying matter is available, so cyclic blooms are normal for fungi in terrarium setups and nothing to be concerned about. I’m not sure what the bugs are. Hopefully they are springtails which only serve to help the balance of your little ecosystem. It’s possible, however, that they could be a type of pest. If you can provide more details about the bugs with some better pictures, you may be able to get a better answer regarding them.

Nothing wrong!!!!! As others have said, this is a kind of fungus. A good layer of mycelium is natural and is actually something we lack in indoor plants a lot of the times, so this is a good thing 🙂

If you use the search function and type in “white balls” you’ll find the answer 🙂
