my grandmother gave it to me and she’s in poor health, i desperately don’t want it to die. i’m very new to having plants and get all my info from online and use the PlantIn app, but it’s not always helpful or specific. i’ve tried what few answers i have found and nothing is working. i’ve had it since mother’s day this year and know my grandma bought it a few weeks before that. it’s in a 10in glass pot with drainage in front of my west facing inside patio door all day every day, not sure the exact amount of hours in the light (sunrise is around 6:15am, sunset at 8:30pm). i have practically no areas with full sun, but this is one of the best part sun locations in my home. it’s given 6oz of water every 4 days with the right (according to the box) mixture of Miracle Gro Bloom Booster Flower Food and misted every two days. it was okay for a week or two then very rapidly began drooping, wilting then browning with the flowers and older leaves going first. i repotted a little over a week ago as it was root bound. also deadheaded and pruned, but it seems like every day there’s a new brown leaf. what am i doing wrong ? keep in mind i’ve only just began with my plant journey in the past few months and this is my first and only lily.

    water it

Edit: Drown that bitch. 6 oz every 4 days is nowhere near enough.

  2. Lay off the flower food, plants already in distress will find it more stressful than helpful.

Peace lilies are dramatic, water when the top inch or two is dry but make sure the soil is thoroughly wet. The best way to do this is to bottom water by putting the pot in a bowl of water and letting it sit for a while to soak up until the top is damp.

It needs a big drink of water. Take it to a sink, pour water over the soil until it comes out the drainage holes. Little sips of water isn’t going to do it for this type of plant.

And Planta is a crap app—it gave me the worst advice for my plants and they all died. Was way better off just learning about different types of plants and asking questions to real people in the plant community instead!

Peace lilies are THIRSTY HOES. WATER IT.

Like… Drench it. Until she’s heavy from the water. Get a moisture meter. Water her again when the number is 3. The apps are crap and the meter is like $8 on Amazon.

Most likely this thing is done for. But..
You need to take this out of the pot and take a look at the roots. Are they soft brown and mushy? You want to look for healthy firm white roots. Remove any dead (brown) roots and remove moat of the soil its in and replace it with fresh potting soil and pearlite. Once repotted water it, let it drain and place it in a window.
Again this is not a watering issue, this is a dead root issue.
For more information on how to do this you can check out the insta for @tannertheplanter. Most of what he does is repotting. Hope this helps.

I have mine on a shelf by my kitchen window with one of those pots that show when the water is low. It is thriving!

Planta is a fantastic app for keeping track of your plants growth, issues, and the dates you got them. But I don’t use it for learning about plants and I don’t follow its advice. I like it as a kind of plant journal.

Great beginner plant in my opinion for this exact reason.  These plants show you exactly when they need water and they like a hefty soak and if not too far gone will pop right back up by the morning.

Plop in the sink and just soak away you cannot over water in one sitting but can over water by too many waterings.

They’re dramatic plants, which is ideal for new plant parents (including me). I like to water my peace lily by chucking her in the (clean, soap free) bathtub and letting the shower run for a few minutes.

Drown it every time you see the leaves start to droop, ideally just before the stage it’s at now.

Edit: also sorry you’re getting so many down votes on your comments here, I don’t think it’s helpful, it’s obvious to me and I’m sure many others, that you’re just doing what you thought was best.
