You’ll also see why I’m embracing dense planting this year in my raised beds and the benefits I’m already seeing with my veggies, herbs, and flowers.
While my cut flower garden is still a work in progress, we’ll focus on what’s blooming today in the rest of the garden, including the charming honeysuckle and the unique Ninebark. Plus, join me for a satisfying session of today’s garden harvest – see what fresh goodness is coming out of the garden!
I’ll also be sharing some inspiring plant combination ideas throughout the tour, showing you how to create cohesive and eye-catching displays. hi you guys welcome to the protege i’ve got so much happening in here and I can’t wait to show you what I’m harvesting what’s growing really well what’s blooming cuz everything’s changed since the tulips and the hyens were blooming in here are you ready to get your bloom on let’s go before we enter the protege I just want to quickly talk about the clatus that I have growing there it’s gazelle it’s kind of fading at this point and it was really beautiful a few weeks ago but I’m trying to train it to grow on that side and that side of the page up the fence i’ve got a thrifted bike that I found at the Vermont flea market i just kind of leave it here i think it’s so cute right outside the pot i’ve got some hydrangeas here paniculadas and then new to the garden this year is fairy trail hydrangeanger yes I’m growing some hydrangeas in pots i’m super excited about it aren’t they beautiful this variety is going to cascade over the edges of the pots i thought they’d make a great entry to the pot and then eventually I will move them to my garden somewhere i’m not exactly sure where yet but you know there’s always room for one more plant now if you want to grow hydrangeas in pots and you want to try to overwinter them it’s really important that you choose a hydrangeanger that’s zone two zones higher than your current zone so if I wanted to overwinter these in my pots outdoors since I’m in zone 6b they would need to at least make it down to zone 4B so uh that’s just a little tip about growing hydrangeas in pots uh but I will be fertilizing these i added some compost to the planters just to kind of keep them healthy throughout the growing season these are actually self-watering planters so I shouldn’t need to water them as often they’re aqua pots from Proven Winners and I am just in love with the look i cannot wait to see these grow as we move into the page i mean can you imagine all the changes that have happened in here since we last hung out because before we had lots of renunculas and stock blooms and pansies and tulips and hyestence and some daffodils and we don’t really have that anymore before we go through everything that’s planted here I just want to mention how much is in this garden and just a little bit of background of where we came from because when we first moved in here this was being used as a basketball court if you can believe that when we moved in I had brought some of my raised beds here and they just I didn’t really like the corrugated metal so that we used them in uh year I think the growing year was 2022 following season my husband and his friend Mark built me these beautiful raised beds i I mean they are amazing i’ve been growing in them you know the last few years and they’ve been really productive and a great asset to the to my gardens um I really mainly focused on these three beds and I grew I grew vegetables in this bed and this bed but I really didn’t pay attention to like any sort of design and like I was just throwing things in there and growing stuff because I was really trying to get a sense of the light situation here and how things grew so now that I’ve got a handle on my cut flower beds which are these three beds I really tried to focus more on growing food and flowers in this bed and the other bed over here densely planted everything and I think that was key for a productive garden i will do that moving forward with my herbs and my vegetables and to make it pretty tuck those flowers in and are you ready because I’ve got some plants to show you why don’t we go from bed to bed and I’ll share what’s growing what I’m harvesting what’s blooming i’ve got all my daffodils planted in there they’re just starting to come up now but obviously they’re not blooming yet i’ve got snapdragons and gamrina in here i’ve got in this bed zenyas straw flowers I think China aers and a nertium that came back from last year pretty excited about that i’ve got my fountain filled and flowing i love this fountain i added it a couple years ago when my husband built these beds and when we designed the beds we completely intended to have a fountain in the middle as a focal point i love it the birds love it butterflies love it it’s a great spot and I love listening to the sound of the fountain while we’re out here enjoying a meal i added a selfwatering window box here to my table because this dries out so easily especially in the heat of summer i decided to tuck in some sun patience just to get a nice solid color easy to grow low maintenance that could take the conditions here as well as you know being in a selfwatering planter in case we had a lot of rain which we’ve had a lot of uh they’re doing really well they’re really thriving and once my dalas zenas and other flowers start growing this is going to look really really gorgeous over here I started some asparagus and I’ve just kind of like let it go i need to cut them back obviously they’re getting a little tall not ready to eat and harvest them yet as they’re still pretty new um I’ve got aliums globe master growing here i’ve got Ringo Roses here by Proven Winners they’re so pretty look at the different colors in the roses i really love the Ringo rose with Globe Master Aliums it’s such a pretty combination but I’m also loving Ringo roses with my Atlas rose by Proven Winners Globe Master Aliums i did them all around the page looks so beautiful and even better with nine bark and this lanosera otherwise known as honeysuckle it smells amazing looks beautiful hummingbirds here all the time it’s fantastic so I planted Atlas roses all along the back portion of the protege in the spring of 2023 and they are really just starting to hit their stride this year the amount of flowers the amount of growth they’re really looking gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous and I love them with that lanosera too look at that isn’t that such a pretty combination with that and the globe master aliums oh my goodness I love it and if I could even describe to you the fragrance in this garden I don’t even think it would do it justice like I was just down here planting some flowers and it is beyond amazing the fragrance i mean look at all of those roses now I do also have the eating climber rose on here she hasn’t bloomed yet but you can see she’s budding i feed all my roses with a spo rose tone and they do really well i’ve got some more Ringo roses over there see the color variation i I It’s a really great combo with Atlas roses i I actually really really like that combo i I wasn’t sure when I planted them together but really pretty i’ve got some lavender down here as well some pansies that have seen better days i just popped some sunatans in here my tulips they’re done not ready to cut them back just yet but you don’t notice them so much with all the flowers and the other plants it is getting hot out here i’m going have to stand in the shade for the rest of this tour so in this garden I don’t know if you remember but I planted it mostly with veggies and herbs that I winter sewed and I bought some flowers early on in the season just to get some color but everything is doing really really great i’ve got carrots in here i’ve got chamomile i’ve got cilantro i’ve got um I’ve got some scallions i’ve got chives i’ve got a bunch of tomatoes dill kale broccoli spinach you name it this bed has it swiss chard i’m growing it my dill is like out of control i can’t even keep up with it the kale has been amazing i’ve been making a green juice i I don’t know if you make green juice but I do and I love that I can just come out here and snip and make a fresh batch i’m gonna drop the recipe in the description below in case you want to give it a whirl maybe I’ll do a future video on it but I just want to quickly talk about how I planted this bed i do have a mix of some cut flowers in here i’ve got lark spur i’ve got a couple other goodies that I started from seed some peppers i densely planted this bed for the first time i densely planted usually with vegetables I really try to follow some spacing guidelines and try to be really organized about it and I was inspired by Gardener and my friend Rash Gala to kind of plant a little bit more closely and have a little bit more fun with it and I love the result and I have to say the garden is a lot more productive so I’m growing garlic i cannot wait to get those garlic scapes i’ve got some sage i’ve got a bunch of pansies that are probably getting pulled sometime soon i’ve got eggplant plant planted along the back some sweet peas i’ve got more tomatoes in here i’ve got some dalia planted in the back corner and really this bed is amazing i I’m really excited about the changes that I made in this garden because I planted it more over the last few years i added a bunch of blooms and you know what you got to give your plants some time you got to be patient first year you get them in the ground the second year they really kind of establish their roots and then the third year fourth year is when they really start to take off and those roses are definitely a testament to that in my last bed this one I kind of did a little bit differently i just kind of like threw the extras in here you know how when you have those extra plants that you don’t know what to do with well they’re all in here so I’ve got broccoli i’ve got Brussels sprouts i’ve got some cilantro uh what else do I have in here some pansies that are definitely getting a little leggy some stock definitely need to cut those and dead head i’ve got tomatoes in here some snow peas look at that i got to pick them oh look at that look at that pod isn’t that Look at that pod isn’t that gorgeous i’ve got some sweet peas growing up this obelisk with a tomato plant in the middle some rosemary more stock some parsley on the other side over there the little white flowers are nia some more broccoli haven’t had a head yet though got some maragolds in here got status [Music] and that’s it you guys thanks so much for joining me in the prog today i’ll see you in the next video enjoy a beautiful day

Gorgeous!! What a relaxing environment. I'm sure the fresh, sweet scent from the flowers and veggies complimented with the sound of water cascading over the fountain is intoxicating. Thank you for sharing!

Love your videos! BTW I tried panicle Lime Light Hydrangeas last year in pots and they did great and overwintered in my zone 5B in Colorado. One of the only things I've had luck overwintering.
My At Last Rose is finally doing some better. This is the third year, and it’s definitely doing more than it has. I did threaten it this year 😁 Your garden is lovely.
