For all the people suffering from fungus gnats, here is proof that you can have MORE plants and still eliminate the pest problem!

I got this sundew plant not thinking it would do much, but omg, this thing is feasting on these gnats! It has reduced the gnat problem to the point where I barely ever see or deal with them. This plant sits in distilled water at all times and in an east-facing window. I can only imagine if I had multiple I would never see any fungus gnats at all!

Nice!! I almost wish I had more gnats so I could get and feed carnivorous plants

mine always just die 🙁 i give it distilled water and good lighting and it catches lots of bugs, but then they just turn black and die… in the middle of summer, so they’re not dormant :(((((((((((((((

I have a couple pingiculas, they are relatively easy and absolutely keep my fungus gnat population down

Edit: now I also want a sundew THANKS

Edit 2: do you think it’d work in a hanging planter so long as I keep it in a dish with water? Logistics aside lol

Are you using peat/perlite mix for the medium?

When it flowers u can have hundreds of them by sowing the seeds 😋

Yeah, but then you have to keep them alive.

Yeah i rarely get fungus gnats anymore (Steinernema feltiae + more appropriate watering “schedule”) but when i did my D. Capensis and D. spathulata plants made a huge dent in them. I now actually have my sundews next to my dart frog tanks now to catch any fruit flies that manage to escape 😅

  9. Me before getting into carnivorous plants: I have a fungus gnat problem

Me after: I have a self sustaining food supply for my carnivorous plants

I fucking knew it! Mine was just delivered today, and I ordered it as a working plant precisely for these demon gnats!! I’m so happy to see this post 😭

Watching them sparkle with those sticky dewdrops is mesmerizing.
