That’s a damn pretty bee. I love getting close to the ones in my garden. They’re so focused on pollen they don’t even care I’m around. They even work around me which is super cool. I used to be afraid of them but I’m not anymore. Now those wasps.. a hole with a bhole shotgun… we ain’t friends.

Okay. So I live in Seattle and last night my husband and I saw 2 bees on our balcony. I’ve never seen them before, at first I didnt even think it was a bee. But this looks EXACTLY like it. Now I’m struggling to find anything that says they live here, so that is worrisome. Unless it was a different type of bee. Does anybody know if there is any bee similar to this in WA state?

In San Diego, I’ve only ever seen the females, never the males. They love my sweat peas.

Fun fact: these male valley carpenter bees are stingless and they don’t bite. But that doesn’t stop them from brawling in the air with other males in the area because they are territorial 😂
