Hello, this is my first paludarium and I have some questions that I'd love insight on. I got this aquarium type enclosure for my birthday and I'd really love to put more than fish in it. This is what I've sketched out as an initial idea of what I'd like to do. The plan is to put fish and some small frogs (or possibly some small lizards) in it. I already have the secondary acrylic container that'd work as the land part. I don't have any other supplies as of right now because it's still in the planning stage. What do you all think? I'd really like as much swimming space as I can get away with, that's why I'm putting the land on stilts. My other question is, with paludariums what kind of filter do I need and do I also need a pump and/or a bubbler? Or is there something that works as all of those. These are some I found on Amazon but I'm completely unsure if they will work or are needed. Please be kind, this is my very first try and I'd really like to know if I'm on the right track or not. I have experience with bioactive enclosures, I have 2, and aquariums just not those combined.

I would decide what animals you’re putting in before trying to build or design anything. Every species has specific care requirements that need to be accounted for. And honestly most vertebrates don’t do well with deep water in their terrarium, perhaps leaning into the fish aspect with some land as decoration would work better?

Build the land portion higher so you are able to have more water volume and more stable water. Additionally, make sure you are able to access every square inch relatively easily. If you are not able to do this you will have a hard time in the future.

Whatever you do do not buy that nicrew filter. I got that one for my first paludaium and didn’t last 2 days before a spec of dirt got in the motor and it stopped running. Had to take apart all the land to get to it. Now it’s an eyesore in the water part of my tank
