My houseplants are NOT looking good :( Please help me.


Hey guys

I'm in deep trouble 🙁 I have started to notice infections, bugs (mealybugs) and brown spots on some of my indoor plants such as Dieffenbachia Seguine (Leopard Lily), and Blushing Philodendron (Pink Princess Philodendron). I am attaching pictures of what actually they look like.

I live in the Middle East so the plants are under 24*7 air conditioning and are kept near by my living room window. They get sunlight from around 7 AM to 10 AM. I water all of them at nearly every 4 days, fertilize as I was told by the gardener at the plant nursery.

    this is a gnarly mealy bug infestation, you can see them clearly in the second picture

    They are not looking good because they are infested with mealybugs. Why did you not treat them, once you’ve noticed them?

    You gotta kill those bugs, but luckily it’s not too difficult. I would do this 2 ways, get some q-tip/cotton swabs and dip it in some rubbing alcohol and the press it onto each of those white hairy little bugs, this will dry them out and kill them. Then to take care of the larvae/eggs I’d spray the plant with some insecticidal soap. We have a brand of Castile soap called Dr Broners but I’m sure the gardener/nursery place would have something that works
 usually you mix it with Reverse osmosis or distilled water, take the plant or as many as can fit to your bathroom and spray tops and bottoms of the leaves and soil and let it sit for 15-20 minutes and then with another sprayer, spray the leaves with pure distilled or reverse osmosis water(if you use tap water with lots of minerals, they’ll create a chalky film on the leaves from the minerals. Do this once a week for 3 weeks and then monitor each plant closely for any returning for another 3 weeks, if you find one, that plants process starts over.

    Terrible mealy bug infection. The philodendron in the window is getting sunburned too btw. That’s what those freckle looking spots are.

    Need to treat the mealie with iso alcohol mixed with water. The other comments cover this treatment really well.

    please if you use the rubbing alcohol advice PLEASE KNOW they will JUMP at the smell of alcohol! nobody told me this and the mealy bugs started jumping on me. i ended up having to get a spray bottle to put the alcohol in

    Looks like mealy bugs. Wash the leaves but don’t let any water get in the soil cuz of they go down in it they will climb back up to the leaves. Do it twice a week for three weeks and it should abolish them. They aren’t hard to get rid of you just have to do it a few times for a few weeks to make sure.
