Since a lot of people asked for an update, here it is:

I dug a smallish hole directly under the spot to a depth of about 7-8". Found nothing!

At that depth I hit some very hard clay. I didn't go any further as I figure with 7" of healthy, moist dirt the problem ain't coming from below.

Would have expected a rock or a buried shingle to be a lot closer to surface than that.

No grubs found. The yellow grass was on there pretty good and had all its roots intact. So it's not that.

Kept an eye on things throughout the day and can't say it was a window reflection at all. Also, all the car mirrors from parked cars are at least 4-5ft away reflecting onto the sidewalk, not on the grass. So that can't be it.

So I guess it must just be a dog that loves this particular spot, and the urine proved too much on top of the solid fertilization the lawn already received.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions and sorry for such an anticlimactic reveal lol!

booooo keeping the secret treasure for yourself!!!

  2. That’s a pretty clear urine spot, dogs like to pee where they peed before.

Did you recently fertilize? It looks like the grass got burned possible by too much nitrogen during the summer. I got a good yellow spot when i shook all the remaining powder out into my lawn on one spot. Learned that the hard way and ‘I’m much more careful about where I clean it now. The shape looks almost like a perfect rectangle like a box or something may have had something on it got placed on your grass and proceeded to burn away. Based on your previous posts that would be my guess.

Was anything hot put down there or any chemicals emptied maybe?

How did you dig such a perfect rectangle, it’s glorious

Get a cheap security camera and put it up to see what’s going on. Some dog is returning to pee there most likely as everyone has said. But it could be something else going on too

I’m impressed by your rectangular hole.

Any chance salt was spilled there during the winter?

  9. Water the spot everyday in the morning. This will dilute the urine. Grass will grow back

  10. Almost looks like you set something down there (possibly a gas can?), and it killed the grass.

Could it possibly have been a gas can, herbicide container, car wash solution, etc?

Thinking of things that may have had a small leak or dribble down the side that formed the square on the bottom

It is almost a perfect square. Did you put something down there, like a piece of glass? I did one time on a sunny day for like 5 mins and I got a spot like that for weeks. Heat killed it quick. Doesn’t take long.

It looks like a gasoline kill. Someone was filling something with gas. It overflowed and killed the grass. I did this filling a small, portable generator.

  13. Female dog urine will leave spots like this. One time is all it takes.

  14. I get those and it is sun reflecting off of windows

  15. Is there maybe reflection off a mirror or window? Around 6 am, my neighbor’s windows reflect down onto the street

  16. ErmahgerdYuzername

That metal looking green box, does it line up with the dead spot? Could it be the sun reflected off of it?

  17. Could it be from a hot spot/glare reflecting off a window or glass of some sort?

  18. Moist-Carpet888

It may be a burn spot from the sunlight reflecting off your window all day at that spot. We had one, then I planted a tree to obstruct it, now its green.

  19. Filfo_Mayo

It’s like a book was left there for a week

  20. Dry-Edge6720

Did someone lay something in the grass on a sunny day for more than a few hours? Fertilizer bags, mulch etc

  21. B-Georgio

Is there any reflective material (glass, shiny metal) that reflects light to that spot at a certain time of day?

  22. GodzillaPoptart

I think it’s glare from the HVAC unit to the bottom left, I had almost this exact same situation 2 years back

  23. IanDunn299

The squareness seems odd. Is it possibly a reflection that is burning/drying out that spot? Might just be getting the sun at just the right angle.

  24. Ottomatica

Did someone wash their car mat and leave it there to dry?

  25. theBearded_Levy

Is there a window or mirror that reflects to that spot?
