I have been gardening in San Diego for 40 years. About 30 years ago I bought a roll of rebar at Home Depot and made cages just like you have made. Still using the 10 that I made 30 years ago without issues for my tomatoes.
That is concrete reinforcement wire known as "remesh" not rebar. It comes in 5×150 ft. rolls at any builders supply. It cost 128.00 at Mennards and makes 22 cages 23 inches in diameter. To make a 23" inch diameter tomato cage, cut the 13th row of the 6×6 squares and put the ends together and bend the wire to attach it. Not easy to explain but very simple to do.
Nice, I started using cattle panels about 5 years ago. I space plants two feet apart along the panel clip or tie to wire, actively pruning the plants. Drip irrigation now i just need to find an organic fertilizer for my injector.

Not quite a lifetime but it will be a good 10 years before the ground contact parts start rusting away.
You can also buy it by the 150 ft roll

My grandfather died in 1984 and I have three of his tomato cages that he built with this material.
Except that the cattle grate is like way way more expensive.
