“anemone” like creature, colony or individual? Lake Champlain VT
Observed hunting/killing coepodes. Contracts tentacles inward. Two individuals, adhered to glass and one to rock. Size is smaller than a pencil eraser.
Lake Champlain sourced water and subrates from various locations.
These are Charchesium sp. which are in the family Vorticellidae but a different genus than Vorticella. Charchesium sp. are true colonial peritrichs (they share stalks) whereas vorticella have pseudo-colonies and are usually found in groups but each have individual stalks. These are both filter feeders that eat on bacterium, detritus, and other smaller organisms. đ Hope this helps!
