ISHPEMING, Mich. (WLUC) – The Ishpeming Senior Center is inviting grandparents to garden with their grandkids this summer.
The center is hosting a new program called Grandkids in the Garden.
Staff planted vegetables and herbs in its community garden and is giving them away to seniors who need fresh produce but can’t get in on their own. While the plants are still growing, the center is inviting seniors with grandkids to tend the garden. Kids will have a chance to learn about gardening, make crafts, and listen to stories.
The senior center says it’ll be fun for kids and relaxing for grandparents.
“This kind of gives the grandparents a little bit of a break,” said Ishpeming Senior Center Executive Director Ashley Roberts. “Allow us to kind of take the reins and help the kids in the garden and do the craft with them.”
Grandkids in the Garden kicks off this Thursday at 1 p.m. at the senior center. It will continue throughout the summer on the second and fourth Thursday of every month. Call the Ishpeming Senior Center at (906) 485-5527 to RSVP.
The video above will feature the TV6 livestream until staff can clip the corresponding story, if available, from broadcasts or other TV6 content. You can subscribe to our YouTube page or download TV6+ to stream the latest local news and weather.
