Welcome back to our Mediterranean garden! 🌴 After the calm of winter, spring has arrived in full bloom — and with it, a few surprises you won’t want to miss. In this episode, we take you on a full spring tour of our villa garden, sharing the latest plant updates and our vibrant flowers.

The house is our priority at the moment but I really must take some time to do a little work in the garden.

We talk through our gardening plans, show you the progress (and setbacks), and contemplate tasks such as:

✅ Garden electrics and outdoor lighting
✅ Weeding and pruning
✅ Choosing new plants for the season

PLUS — we’re thinking of changing the name of the villa, and we’d love your help! Drop your suggestions in the comments. 🙏

This is the follow-up to our winter garden episode, so make sure to catch up if you missed it. And please don’t forget to subscribe for more Mediterranean garden inspiration and lifestyle updates!

[Music] hi and welcome to Le Naked Cactus and another episode from our
Mediterranean garden [Music] as you know the house is taking priority at
the moment and the garden is getting a little neglected although about six weeks ago it burst
into life and into color unfortunately I’m not just talking about the flowers i’ve got a lot
of weeding to do. Today i’m going to show you around and if you watched the winter episode
there’s a few surprises I think you’re going to like although I do wish I’d filmed this episode
just a few weeks ago so although we’re officially still in spring it feels as though the garden
has already moved on there’s so much I’d like to have shown you that’s already bloomed and
gone don’t worry though there’s still a few showstoppers and one of them is hiding just up
there and that’s where I’m going to take you first [Music] it is of course our beautiful bougainvillea how
stunning is that all I’ve done is just trimmed off a few of the dead bits kept it watered and I’m
keeping everything crossed it continues flowering like this throughout summer. Just below is
my aloe vera plant i use it all the time now if you haven’t seen it I made a video about a
month ago showing how I prepare the leaves and how I use it on my skin and in my hair there are so
many benefits to using it i love this plant now Do you remember me pruning this Mediterranean
palm in the winter episode it’s definitely got more green it’s not exactly thriving and I’m
not sure what I should do with these very dead bits do they need cutting out completely let me
know what you think. Now I also need your advice on what to do here this is our main entrance and
I’ve given it a long long time but this jasmine plant is definitely dead and I need your ideas
on what to replace it with it’s north facing but it still gets very very hot here and please bear
in mind I’m not very good at remembering to water things. What do you think Finn? What should
we put here? Rosemary is just everywhere in the garden and is absolutely thriving what
I wanted to show you was this one because I love it i don’t know what it’s called i’m
guessing it must have some kind of fire in it and behind me is our oleander it’s in full bloom now and absolutely
beautiful it’s what you can see from our dressing room window. I just wish
early in the year I’d pruned it much shorter maybe down to knee height, I’ve
heard that you can’t over prune oleander but I’m not sure what do you think?
Is that too short? Matches my skirt Heading back down i want
to show you the first of my surprises remember these, our two orange trees, the only orange trees around here with no
oranges on them. Look I have baby oranges! This is an example of something I would love
to have shown you, these flowers a couple of weeks ago were everywhere in the garden.
As you can see, nearly all gone now [Music] Now this old man’s cactus at the side of
me has flowered, just one or two remaining, the rest have gone a little bit droopy, now
I’m not 100% but I’m thinking this is maybe how it got its name! Let’s head down to
the petanque pitch and it is a very very overgrown petanque pitch but we’ve had so many
wild poppies growing that I’ve not wanted to cut it. I’m going to have to do soon because I’m sure
our summer visitors are going to want to play. Now the plant growing along the fence has flowered
i’m not sure what it is but it’s very pretty. Whilst we’re down here I’m just going to take
you out of our bottom gate to show you something. I don’t know if I’ve told you this
before but our house has a name, it is Villa Les Rey now we’re wanting to change
this but we haven’t got a clue what to change it to so I’m hoping I can put my trust in
you to put your thinking caps on and come up with a good name Whilst I’m here… wires,
as you know the electrics in the house were bad they’re not much better in the garden. You
found some shade Finn good boy! So I need to take off the switches, cut out the wires,
remove all the old junction boxes and we can start thinking about new electrics and some
garden lighting. Lots and lots of trimming to do, this is Harvey’s path up to his bedroom
it’s not very accessible at the moment oh and before I forget there’s one last surprise
to show you. It’s at the front of the house [Music] and here’s my final surprise, remember my dead
grape vine well it’s definitely not dead! I took your advice and I trimmed it right back and look
we’ve got grapes! I just need to keep trimming any leaves that cover them and hopefully
they’ll carry on growing bigger and juicier [Music] i’m going to leave you now because I seem to
have talked through an awful lot of work but not actually got anything done. Now obviously
it’s not going to be finished in a day, a week or even a month there’s a lot of work
to do. One thing I do know is that I will be up early in the morning when it’s a lot lot cooler
because it’s just coming up to 12 and it is absolutely boiling here. So I will do another
update in a couple of months, I’m going to go find some shade now so thank you very much for
watching, I’ll see you next time bye-bye [Music]
