OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Plant enthusiasts broke out their umbrellas for the 56th annual Nebraska Medicine Munroe-Meyer Guild’s 56th annual Garden Walk.
Five Omaha area gardens were on display this year.
Guild President Jennifer Read says the millions this event has raised over its 5 decades, helps support programming at the Munroe-Meyer Institute.
“Fund seed grants that would normally not go funded because they are just start up grants,” said Read.
“We have purchased state of the art equipment; we have started innovative programs at MMI.”
Gardens are either chosen by the guild or nominated by residents every year. In July, the guild will begin looking for next years Garden Walk nominees.
“We have gardens that range from very manicured to a butterfly habitat garden, so you will see it all,” Read said.
“The majority of our gardens are maintained by the homeowners themselves and that is what we enjoy, finding these people who just love to do this.”
Read told First Alert 6 they are always taking suggestions via email or on their Facebook page.
