PINE RIVER
— The University of Minnesota Extension and Pine River-Backus Community Education invite students entering grades three through six to join a free Nutrition To Grow On summer program.
This fun, hands-on, free gardening class will help kids explore nutrition and healthy eating through interactive garden-based activities.
Classes will run from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Tuesdays, June 10-Aug. 5 at the PR-B Community Education building, 990 First St. N, Pine River.
Spots are limited. Registration is available at

The Pine River-Backus Community Garden is located behind the high school (north) near the school forest and west of the football field and track.
Adult garden classes are also offered free to PR-B Community Gardeners or with a $10 fee per session to nonmembers.
All classes will run from 6-7:30 p.m. on the following Tuesdays: June 17, Growing Herbs and Using Herbs; July 15, Composting 101 and Chop & Drop; Aug. 19, Harvesting and Processing the Goods; and Sept. 9, Cover Cropping — Why? When? How?
