I got a Zygosicyos pubescens in the mail (from a reputable nursery here in the USA). When it arrived about a month ago, it had some minor damage from shipping. I thought nothing of it, thinking it would simply heal over. It also initially lost all of its leaves, I believe due to transplant shock. The leaves have started coming back, so I thought it was healthy. Well yesterday I was looking at it and there was a discolored patch on it. When I touched it a large piece came off revealing a patch of rot! I really like this plant, and want to do whatever is necessary to save it. I was thinking of trying to figure out how to carve out the rotted/moldy section then cut a little further. Then maybe I could sprinkle some powdered fungicide (I have some Captan fungicide) on the cleaned surface. I am not sure if this is the correct course of action though. Can anybody please advise me in as much detail as possible what I should do to save this magnificent plant?

If it was my plant, I’d do what you’re proposing. Remove from soil. Cut out the rot and then treat with fungicide or powdered sulphur. Let it sit and dry for a couple of weeks and then replant. It’ll no doubt go through transplant shock again but better than letting the rot set in.
You’re on the right track, you want to cut it back to clean flesh, dust with sulphur and allow it to dry. It may or may not be necessary to unpot it to do so, but ether way it’s basically the same treatment. They are incredibly hardy of treated right, this one survived just fine!
