Gardeners’ World star Adam Frost says his long-term wife Sulina won’t let him sign up to Strictly Come Dancing, due to the notorious curse associated with the BBC show.

The so-called curse is a term used to describe relationship breakdowns that can occur amongst contestants or professionals, during or shortly after they’ve competed on the show.

“I don’t think Mrs Frost would let me go on Strictly because of the curse thing,” he laughed, while clarifying that this was not a matter of trust issues.

He continued: “I think sometimes you get put in a box, [but] yeah I would [do a reality show].

“I go on a live stage [on tour] and if you came and saw me on a stage you’d think, ‘Oh right, this is a very different Adam Frost’, because I tell lots of naughty stories.”

Without any interruption or someone cutting him short on stage, Adam likened himself to “the little boy that was getting told off at school for messing around and talking too much”.

After meeting Sulina in the 1990s, they went on to marry and have four children together; Abi-Jade, Jacob, Amber-Lily, and Oakley.

Alongside the selfie of the pair, he wrote in the caption: “This weeks joy, being away with this amazing lady xx.”

Many of his 129,000 Instagram followers commented on the snap, as one fan wrote: “Fabulous photo… enjoy your time off together.”

“Love is everything and eternal,” a second added, while a third wrote: “So lovely to see a happy couple making memories.”

Adam isn’t the only Gardeners’ World star to have snubbed the chance at appearing on the BBC show.

In 2021, Monty Don revealed that he had turned down the the offer on a number of occasions.

Addressing his fans on platform X, he wrote: “I have been asked on Strictly three times now – politely refused each time and would continue to do so were there another 33 times! Not my thing.”

Similarly, presenter Clare Balding has confirmed that she also won’t be participating in the contest, after a warning from her wife Alice Arnold.

During a conversation on the Smart TV podcast, she recounted: “When the request came through she said, ‘You can say yes to that if you like, but I won’t be here when you come back’.”

Last week, the BBC revealed the line-up of professional dancers set to return for this year’s edition of Strictly.

Those hoping to win the Glitterball trophy with a celebrity partner include; Nadiya Bychkova, Katya Jones, Gorka Marquez, Luba Mushtuk, and Johannes Radebe.

The names of the celebrities taking part on the show will be revealed at a later date.
