This is my yard in small town Ontario. I still have a traditional lawn and garden in the front (with some natives thrown in) with the garden growing and the lawn shrinking all the time. At the side of the house, the traditional garden gives way to natives: cone flowers, native sunflowers, fireweed (I think it’s called), milkweed, Joe Pyeweed, native grasses, etc. The side yard was a sea of Myrtle and English ivy. It’s all still there, but I’ve planted Canadian anemone, and it’s competing well and completely blankets M and EI. I’ve also got Scarlett trilliums, Wild Ginger, elderberry and Mayflowers in the area as well as a redbud and tulip tree.
