  1. Hope you don’t have any deer in your area…. Recently moved to an area with deer population. They’ve been munching on mine continuously, so I’m not sure where to plant them. So far, keeping the pots of hydrangeas close to the shed foundation is the only way I’ve found to protect them. Love your hedge though. Wanted to put mine beside the driveway, but won’t last long unless I can get a really powerful spray deterrent …☹️

  2. Please pull the mulch away from the base of the plant. It will cause it to rot. Do you want the mulch around the plant but not right up against the plant. Good luck with your new adventure.😊

  3. Never lay down landscape fabric….. long term will have the opposite effect than is desired and we don't need more plastic in our yards/soil/foods.

  4. I'm shocked that you didn't get the edges and put a landscaping border around. It's gonna be very pretty but what about when they stop blooming you will just Have dry wood sitting there. They are better as a behind the scene plant not a focal
    Point

  5. That is going to be beautiful and awesome!! They grow quickly so I’d give it 4 years and they’ll be as tall as you easy.

  6. Looove it but this hits me hard 😂 Many varieties honestly suck as plants up north. Way too needy, sensitive to cold. I have one in my yard for five years now and it never grows more than baby leaves, planted about three feet from a peony bush which produces healthy blooms every year. I’ve trimmed the hydrangea back some years, not trimmed it back and it still does nothing different. I’m digging it up at the end of this summer, I’ll try to move it and see what happens.

The only ones that work here are the large woody-tree type and they have amazing large white to pink coneflowers. I have two of them in my yard and they are spectacular blooms and hardy.

  7. oh my god. that's gonna be amazing. hydrangea hedges are the dream. i just did one this spring as well, but with firelight, and much much shorter lol

  8. Oh no. Not that horrible landscape fabric. So bad for the poor hydrangeas. You'll just end up with weeds growing on top.

  9. Uh…they get huge and will be spectacular in the right environment. Be prepared for gorgeous bouquets in the late summer. Mine are about 15-20' tall x up to 6-8' wide.

  10. This is going to look epic!! One year please make them ombré by adding more and more coffee grounds to each plant.

  11. I love panicle hydrangea. Limelights are a wreck here because they fall over during the summer storms. I think you are going to have a mess on your hands. Firelights would have been a better choice for anyone that is wanting this look.

  12. The landscaping fabric will be a huge regret in the coming year. Weeds will grow in the mulch and then root into the fabric. Id recommend removing it and planting some type of native sedge or prairie grass in there instead. Mulch is time consuming and never looks as good as the day you put it down. Little bluestem or prairie dropseed would look great there. The hydrangeas will take a few years to fill out the area anyway. Don't overwater. You want the plants to send their roots down looking for water.

  13. Beware rabbits and groundhogs will eat leaves and bark on these lol. You’re gonna need cages eventually!
