For those about to embark, it’s not about letting your current lawn grow into a weed patch. Much of the work will be in the beginning. Then (at least in my case) it will settle into adding plants in the spring and puttering around a few mornings a month.

  1. Lovely! And a good reminder that “no lawn” doesn’t mean “no work”.

*some* work? I spend way, way more time maintaining our no-lawn than I ever did mowing. Totally, 100% worth it. Walking outside this morning smelling everything, bees everywhere, watching new flowers pop up. I want more. In a few weeks our Russian Sage will bloom and it’ll be complete unhinged purple mahem and the craziest buzzing honey factory you’ve ever seen. But the cleanup of all those little purple flowers … (worth it).

Our new neighbors just ripped out some amazing ground cover and bushes and installed a lawn. I don’t get it.
