Looks like you literally skipped over areas. This is a you issue not the spreader issue.

Isn’t this just an issue if you walk in straight lines? Can’t this be mitigated by doing a 🌀 (swirl?)

  3. TiredofHumidity

Why the fuck do they build the sidewalk like that

  4. That twin spiny thing burned me a few years ago. I don’t know how a company whose specialty is lawncare allows this to happen. I found a generic spreader that was almost identical to the old style broadcast and it works fine.

Good spreaders are so stupidly expensive it’s insane. I’ve gone through 2 that have lasted me maybe a season and a half, and they cost me around $120 a piece. Those were the “cheaper” spreaders.

  6. I don’t understand how this happens.

I’m using an off-brand spreader from 2009 received from my father-in-law has a hand-me-down when I bought my house. Never have had any issues.

Use Southern AG Chelated Iron. It’ll fix the uneven green in your lawn. You’ll still fertilize as normal but the chelated iron will make your entire lawn an even green.

  8. I’ve got the same spreader never had an issue. You should be making multiple passes. I usually end up making 3-4 passes and lower the drop rate a bit.

I too thought I was immune. Now I have a Mohawk in my yard.

Next time apply it in one direction at 1/2 the recommended setting, then rotate 90° and apply at 1/2 the recommended setting again. Example: east to west at 1/2 the setting and the north to south at 1/2 the setting. This helps to get missed areas.

Shitty broadcasters gives Scotts more profit in seed sales.

Still looks better than your neighbours 😅

Step 1: Set it to lower than recommended setting. Somewhere around setting 3.

Step 2: Do at least 3 passes around your lawn 0/45/90. The more the better.

    Step 3: Prosper.

Bonus tip: the bb size fert worked better with these spreaders as the balls have more bounce. The fine fertilizer has a much bigger tendency to clog the chute and also buildup on the wheels.

Do you all just open it wide up and dump all your fertilizer in one pass? I don’t understand how so many people get messed up with a perfectly competent spreader. Turn it to the correct setting and cross hatch until your done.

I’ve been using a Scott’s edge guard for 5 years. Not the best spreader in the world as it can clog sometimes but I’ve never seen this in my yard.

Why do you guys with tiny lawns refuse to just buy the Scott’s (or other) hand spreader? It’s so easy, it’s accurate around obstacles, and it fits in a five gallon pail with the rest of your granular fertilizer for the year.

You can even get a battery powered one, so it’s even less work…

Seriously, I’m asking: why aren’t you guys just going with the handheld option? It fits enough for a couple passes over 1000 sq ft, and you notice right away if it clogs because you’re holding it.

And here I thought the broom was a weird way to stripe your lawn.

  18. Wise-Communication93

I think you overlapped in places and missed a couple strips too. For that small of an area it would be easy to drop the application setting on your spreader and do passes in both directions. Could even drop it lower and do four.
