Hi! 🌿 I have a Boston Fern that I (regrettably) let get to a pretty bad point. I didn’t quite understand how to care for it, but now I’m fighting to keep her pushing!
Current care: Outside with indirect sunlight (FL west coast, maybe too much?), and watering her a lot less than she needed (from what I read). North facing patio, if it matters!
My question is: what do I do here?
I read about cutting dead fronds, repotting, and maybe doing a good soak and moving her inside? I’m second guessing a lot of it as this plant has sentimental meaning to me. (I know, I know… I could have done better.)
Any tips for reviving and/or caring for this baby? All advice appreciated. I attached a picture of her, a close up of the soil and roots, and the pot she was in. Thank you in advance!

Remove all the dead fronds like you said, if you want it outside, move it to a spot where there is shade all the time. On hot sunny days, spray water on the plants but do not do it frequently.
Important thing is, never let the fern go dry.
If you could recreate its natural environment, the plant would thrive.
Good luck!!
I just got one of these like a month ago and I’m finding it needs so so much more water than all of my other plants.
Look at basic fern requirements. Fern need a substrate of peat moss (or coco peat) + Sand + Grit+ Coco chips so that there is a balance of moisture retention and high porosity. They don’t like to sit in water ot have retained water around the roots so garden soil is a bad idea.
They need High moisture so put a pebble tray under the pot. Or place in a bathroom window. Your plant will recover
Water every day. I live in Central Texas, a little bit of a similar climate to Florida and my ferns hery watered every day, unless it rains. It’s also in part sun, part shade and it does ok
