OGDENSBURG – A century worth of Ogdensburg Garden Club History is on display at the Ogdensburg History Museum for the month of June.

For a century, Ogdensburg Garden Club has worked to educate youth and community in gardening and in honor of that milestone, the club wants the public to join in the celebration.

“One hundred years ago we began with a mission to ‘educate the membership, community, and youth in gardening, civic improvement and flower arranging, and to mutually help members by a generous exchange of knowledge and experience.”’  This mission has been fulfilled in many different ways over the years, but it is still what we live by today.  Hopefully, our display will illustrate just this,” Lin Griffin said.

The Ogdensburg Garden Club is beginning its 100th Anniversary celebrations with an exhibit for the month of June at the Ogdensburg History Museum.

“We want to thank the Ogdensburg History Museum for hosting  and the  Seaway Valley Prevention Council for their help in creating and printing materials for this display”.

“We want to invite the public to stop by the museum to take a walk back in time with us.  Going through old files was quite an eye opener to most of us as current day members of the Garden Club.  Folks might see some familiar “old” faces or reminders of events we sponsored that they remember.  Awards we have won (some of them) are on display as well,” Griffin said.

The museum is located at 330 Ford St, Ogdensburg,

The Garden Club organizes many projects throughout the year to ensure active participation. Some of them include: Civic Beautification – the maintenance of several public gardens in the City, hanging baskets and business planters; Garden Therapy; Maple Leaf Awards; sponsorship of the Youth Garden Club for children and teens.

Approximately every three years the Club presents a Standard Flower Show and in other years they hold a Fall Sale of garden-related items or a Summer Garden Tour.

Money received from the sale and garden tour help fund all the activities of the Garden Club.

The Ogdensburg Garden Club was founded in 1926 and is a member of District 5, (Section 5) Federated Garden Club of New York State, Inc. and the National Garden Clubs, Inc., St. Louis, Missouri.
