My 14×6 strip of “lawn”, it was 50/50 moss and dirt tbh, I even saved a bunch of the cushion moss to plant around the paving stones (those are new too). I think it looks funny with the patches of moss right now LOL. landscapers are going to be like wtf this crazy lady doing.

I have been in talks with a local native/pollinator plant nursery in town and I’ll be picking up some smaller plants for the itty bitty area to the left of the grass, I got an assortment of plants that all flower different parts of the year and some wild strawberries!

I was going to add a rock garden in another corner but that might be a project for next year.. I am slowly collecting large rocks from an exposed rock slide area on the mountain next to my house 😂 that I will be using to make the rock garden.

Unfortunately for now I am using white clover as a ground cover for the main 14×6, because it’s drought resistant and it has flowers for the bees. I heard it’s not ideal as a lawn alternative but I really just don’t want to deal with grass. I have no children or outdoor pets so it will largely be left alone. Any recommendations for something I could put in instead of the white clover for next year? I will be posting signs for the landscapers to skip out yard when mowing, and to also leave the leaves during the autumn.

I am also going to be collecting some fallen tree branches from the forest and I will lay them around the small “garden” patch to act as homes and shelters for bees and bugs, and to also act like the borders for the garden bed. I want to make a little haven for all the birds and the bugs 💜

This has been a fun little project! I am thankful for not having a much bigger yard because boy I am pooped 😂

Love the moss and native plants on the way! It’ll look great all settled in. I’ve seen a lot of people suggest yarrow as a hardy ground cover, but I’ve never personally used it as that. I have several large yarrow plants and I love them though so I’d consider it for sure if I were looking for one! Happy in my clay soil and pretty hardy

Love your moss! Where did you find the cute stepping stones? I’ve been looking everywhere for good stones like those that aren’t $40 each haha
