When I first made this jar in ~February there wasn’t any snails (or they were hiding) but then there were about 8 and they were pretty big. I guess one or a few had babies bc wow. Should I move some of them before they all grow? There is so many of them.

(Yes, all those little black dots are babies).

Can you post a closeup pic? I suspect they may be nzms. If so, don’t spread them to any other jars. They’re highly invasive and can reach densities in the wild of 6 digits per square meter; in other words, they will probs be all that’s in the jar long term.

If these are bladder snails, do not move them. That’s what an ecosphere is all about. Mother nature takes what she needs and leaves the rest, and obviously these are needed to clean up. These snails are practicing population control in an enclosed environment. When the clean up job is done and it’s all about maintenance. the ones not needed anymore will literally commit suicide by crawling out of the water and dry out as to not soil the water again. Amazing little creatures. I get mad when people call them pest snails lol. Pests do damage…these guys don’t.
