So recently acquired a new home… garden was as you can see… overgrown just a little bit… very complicated was late mother's home, she was very ill, lots of renovations needed etc. Anyways!
I caved and got some guys to clear it out. Mostly had a huge alkanet infestation that is definitely not pleasant at that level (as much as I love the bees).
Ultimately, I would just like a plain grass lawn for now and not too worried about much else…
What would be the next best steps to achieve that? Till/fork everything then go wild with some weed killer? Also have to get rid of a small stump in the back left and from what I can also see, someone must have put a tarp/weed ground cover right at the back as well which I could remove.

Yes! I’ve done exactly this. We had an overgrown garden of brambles and alkanet, and grew a lawn from seed + flower beds in a few months. Now is a good time to do it.
I’m not sure what you need weedkiller for?
I’d flatten out and till that soil, then go wild with grass seed and some micro clover (or regular if you like, I think it’s lovely).
It will need a good amount of watering.
Depends on how much time you’d like to dedicate to the project and how soon you would like to see your lawn- you could leave out some tarp /cardboard over the area so you limit the chemicals and still kill off all weeds, or go down the quick but chemical lane…
I’d probably try and dig those out first if you can. Although we still get a few intruders, they’re easily managed now – and our garden was covered too.
We went from totally bare earth, to an actual functioning garden within about four months. It’s worth the hard work.
Excellent work, lift those pavers and get the garden completely bare so you can start from scratch, you could even jet wash and relay them properly
Grass seeds, lots of them, scatter and water, repeat every week till September. Will take a while till it resembles a lawn so it’s best to get scattering them seeds now. There are lawn feeds available from garden centres. Just pull up anything you don’t want, no need for weed killer, that will just kill off your grass.
