As well as having people flocking for plants, soil and such like, a garden centre in a busy North East town has people flocking for another reason as well. And it’s all down to its amazing Sunday dinners that have generated a lot of buzz on social media.

If you visit ChronicleLive on a regular basis, you’ll know that we write about food a LOT. Whether it’s the best brunch spots, the best places to get fish and chips in the North East, where to go for a curry or ice cream hotspots, we like to keep you all in the loop.

And something else we’re passionate about and we know you are too, is where does the best Sunday dinners. People get very vocal when it comes to the pubs or restaurants that do the region’s top roasts, with Chronicle reviewer Andrew Musgrove claiming to find Newcastle’s best at Cafe 21 inside Fenwick, while many people have been heading to the plush Branches restaurant in Jesmond to tuck into its £28 dinner.

And now there could well be another contender in the shape of The Potting Shed, the ‘secret’ cafe at Green Fingers Garden Centre in South Shields. Granted, a garden centre might be a location that immediately springs to mind when it comes to Sunday dinners, but The Potting Shed has had 5 star reviews by the bucket load for its roasts, with its £15.95 dinners becoming more popular every single weekend.

The roasts, all served with local seasonal vegetables, Yorkshire pudding and gravy, are also available as a ‘small’ for a slightly cheaper £12.95, with diners also sitting down to enjoy Yorkshire Pudding wraps, loaded roasties and Sandwich Dips. A glance on Trip Advisor reveals a wealth of glowing feedback for the Sunday dinners at The Potting Shed, with one recent reviewer enthusing: ‘The service and food were first class and such huge portions!’
