Why is one patch of grass like this? It grows much faster and it’s brighter green.

Is this between your house and the street? I would want to know if there were a sewer line leak, if it were my house. Could also be a sprinkler line leak or some type of French drain that exits there.

My thought is there is moisture (and perhaps nitrogen rich material aka poo) that is leeching into the area.

Not an expert, so take others thoughts over my own.

  2. I’d first check if the grass type is the same as the grass around it. Pull it up and inspect it.

I would wager this is a waste line leak. Sewer main lines are typically down under the streets and each home hooks into it. The growth is being fed by water from your usage, and potentially nutrients from your waste serving as a sort of fertilizer. Looks like it’s beyond the curtilage of the property so likely not your responsibility but you’d need it marked to know for sure. Could also try calling your water/sewer company (typically the city) and see what they say.

Could be a section of Poa Trivialis. It likes to grow fast.

If the water meters in the basement, it should be the water departments problem.

No way an expert here but those cracks in the asphalt on the street COULD indicate water and maybe it’s pooling where you’re growing said grass. I’d call. Couldn’t hurt.

Asphalt on the street looks like it’s cracking and that could be due to water. MAYBE it’s pooling where your grass is growing. Maybe it’s something else. No way an expert on these things. Simple observation but I’d call the town. Couldn’t hurt.

Oh, sorry about that. My dog pooped there. 💩

Follow a straight path between that patch and your house and look for a clean-out. Just because the meter is on the other side doesn’t mean the sewer isn’t on that side.

Theres some kind of water pipe here with a leak or overflow happening.

I’m on the west coast, so might be different here. I had a similar patch in my front yard. I found that this is where the drains from the backyard exited. So basically nutrients in the runoff from the backyard was creating a super healthy area of lawn where the pipe exited. In fact I have two drain outlets! They each line up with the side yards. I would recommend using a long screw driver or something similar that will probe about 6-8 inches down in case the pipe is buried. You will feel when you hit something solid. Mine was buried and the pipes were filled with roots from the adjacent gasses. I doubt it’s a sewer pipe as those function with gravity and will likely be 3 or more feet deep at the sidewalk. Best of luck!

If it is a water or or sewer leak, think it is on the city side. Being this close to the road. Theirs to fix. Let them know.

  13. Definitely a water leak. Had a spot just like this in my lawn from the main line running from the street to my house. It was a pin hole sized leak but over time it was plenty enough water to make that spot grow much faster than the rest of the lawn.

  14. I think it’s a different variety of grass seed

Street looks like it’s graded to drain there, whether on purpose or otherwise. Have you cut the grass back to see if there’s a drain? Or a low spot?

  16. Hrmm… that patch o’ bright green grass? Orc seen this madness before…

That be Sprigbold, a baby nature elemental, sleepin’ in da lawn. Soft now, aye… but it feeds on sun, rain, and the tears of mailmen. Grows wild. Gets bold. Then explodes like mossy mold.

If yer wise, ye cut it, burn it, or bribe it with compost. If it hums… RUN.
Or just poke it. Orc not care. Chaos fun.

Dog pee is probably the best guess.

I have something similar in the grass out in front my house. Once one dog pees there, others will follow suit.

Gonna start shitting in my lawn and watering more frequently

I’d say this is a different type of grass which grows quicker, Scott’s turf builder, annual ryegrass and perennial ryegrass. Someone probably seeded a patch that wasn’t growing there. I did the same in my back yard and it grows way faster then the other grass.
