Gary #1
It’s stayed too cool and too much rain here in east tn for my garden to do much. Everything is stunted but not dead! I’m hoping they can make through this rain til we get some actual sun.
Gary, my garden is beautiful. I credit you for a lot of the knowledge I have gained over the last 3-4 years. It is small, only about 520 sq ft, but I dug up almost 20 lbs of potatoes in the last couple of days which is plenty for me. I have onions, although not big, they will still eat. Squash and cucumbers are starting to produce. Thanks for spreading your knowledge! PS — I've very interested in your squash bug trap experiment!
Thanks for list i am in north middle GA zone 7/8
Growing collards for the first time, and they are huge! Thank you for teaching about collards.
I’m in Arkansas zone 8A. Do you have any videos about growing vegetables indoors?
I’m in Florida 9b…90+ daily. Which of the plants you talked about should be started later. Currently growing squash, small pumpkins
I’m also zone 7… too much rain lately. I went on a mission to get some kaolin clay and found it at an agway. Plan on spraying tomorrow
Thank you!! Very helpful information!!
Is the saying “ knee high by the 4 th of July” True for corn?
I tried sweet potatoes and got very little mishap Wed potatoes. Then I learned they need to be cured, which I did not have the ability to do.
Will insecticidal soap work for flea beetles?
Hi Gary,
I just posted a picture on your Facebook page with this morning’s garden pickings, cucumbers, a bell pepper, four tomatoes, and a head of cauliflower. Cauliflower, tomatoes and cucumbers at the same time?
Yesterday I pulled up the first 50 of about 250 Danvers carrots. When II am finished with them, it is parsnip time. Then it will be bean planting time. My Armenian Yard-Long are not what I got. At a guess, I am looking at a Boston Cucumber hybrid. I had to remove three more plants. This time for lack of root development. The plants overgrew what the roots could supply and died. This normally isn’t a problem for me. I just started more seeds to replace them. Next year, I am gong back to my tried and dependable International Pickling Cucumber. Seeds are on the way.
It has come time when I have to plant my last zucchini seed starts, Golden Zucchini. I tucked them in front of my remaining cauliflower, so they get plenty of light. I am hoping for more cauliflower heads soon. I should have had them by now.
It is bug season, and they are biting—me. We’ve been getting a lot of rain lately, but now that it is clear weather, I need to start spraying, first with Spinosad, then with Immunox. I start spraying tonight!
Not sure if I missed it but what is the square footage of your garden? Do you have any drone footage of it? I have been following you for a long time (I want to say 2014 or 2015) I learned about starting seeds from your series "my first vegetable garden"..Thanks again for sharing your knowledge and passion.
If you spray tomatoes after you see problems you're too late. Best to do a 7-10 day rotation with 2 different fungicides alternating each. You should walk your garden every morning and again in the evening to nip problems in the bud so to speak. Have Fun
This is why you're one of my absolute favorite gardening content creators. You're here telling people it's not too late to START tomatoes (micro/dwarf/determinates) while others are implying that if you haven't planted out by mid-May, you won't have food.
May has been so chilly and rainy, even if you planted out before Mother's Day, the plants have barely grown. Summer plants like heat.
The people who planted out their gardens early May, and those who will start this week will be in the same place in 4 weeks.
Gary, Gonna have to start watching more of your videos since moving from zone 10a in California to 7a in Arkansas 😅
Great content as always. Thanks for continuing to educate people on the wealth and bounty of home gardening.
We've had an historically cool/cold late May here in Southern Ontario (the coldest in 58 years) and tonight is the last night where it's dipping to about 36F with the wind chill. I'm just relieved that we're going to be getting Spring after today. It's truly remarkable how much further along your garden is despite you only being a single zone above us.
what kind of blueberries are you growing??
Gary is like crack, you keep coming back. This video is about June seeding, but everything he talks about, he planted in April.
Hi Gary – I just finished building a new 4’x8’x1’ raised bed and filling it with a screened loam / compost mix from a local farm – looks great. I’ll be mulching the beds I can with EZ straw. I will be starting my spray especially on my Kennebec and red Norland potatoes- they are starting to have small holes – capt. Jack dead bug spray ok ? Ty for all your advice – Steve zone 6 b
