Hello!
My mother gifted me this plant (she herself got it from an apartment dissolution) and the last few months I’ve been contemplating how to go about helping this baby.

It seems healthy and growing well (all the green new growth happened at my place) but when I saw the roots I grew alarmed lol

Should I even repot it if it is growing well?

If yes, do I remove the roots?? Or try to cut apart the plastic pot?

Should I put it into a larger pot?

Sidenote:

I live in Central Europe and the air has been on the drier side the past few months. So I water it every 2-3 days, only a little bit and mostly from the bottom.

This room is on the south side with large windows, so it is very bright but I never put it into direct sunlight.

Holy moly, I’ve never seen roots literally bind around the pot like that! Definitely looks like it wants an upgrade. It won’t be easy but you’re probably going to need to cut that plastic pot up into bits to try and manoeuvre it out.
I’d try and keep as much of the roots in tact as possible and sacrifice the pot, but don’t be afraid to cut off some of the roots if necessary, it’ll grow back.

I’m no expert on this plant so will wait for someone else’s advice on repotting, but I would personally go for a much larger pot, like 3x. It looks like it can handle the extra room

  2. Nooo it loves the pot so much that it hugs it🥺

Yeah you should probably repot it, if the pot is mostly root and not soil, it will grow slower and ypu will have to water it too frequently. I would try to cut the pot and preserve the roots.

Some plants like to be slightly rootbound, so I advise lookimg up whether it is one of them to determine how bigger you should go.

I’m no expert so I’ll let one comment on this idea: how about just putting the pot into a larger, soil-filled pot? Sure trim the first one a little, but the plant obviously doesn’t care about it so why risk damaging the plant by cutting off the pot ?

Yes. Cut the green pot. Slowly break away pieces of it, disturbing the roots as little as possible. You can cut roots if there is no way around it.

Make sure that it is repotted into a pot with drainage holes. Use high-quality tropical soil or add perlite for drainage.

Dam those are some nice roots i would cut the old pot out of u do but it does look healthy tho …. if you repotted it u could leave it about 6 inches above the new soil line all those twisted roots would look really cool after some time like a root tornado going in the new soil but I also like the look of big plants in small pots just gotta feed and water it more
